When I read here on Tripadvisor all the opinions about the poor conditions of the rooms in Bako National Park, just for a moment I thought to avoid sleeping here. Now I am sure about two things: a) they were right, the rooms, or at least the rooms I have seen, are really bad; b) I definitely should sleep here... More

If you are an independent solo traveler get the early bus from Kuching at 7 am. Once you get to the boat jetty you need to pay for and BOOK your return trip. To save money try and find other travelers on the same schedule as yours otherwise it can work out quite expensive. Boat trip is RM 47 each... More

This is a great place to see wildlife in an unspoilt location. Took the local bus, the Kuching Rapide (not) for MR3.50, took about an hour. Had a boat between two of us as no one to share with. On outward trip be prepared for a beach landing , dependent on tides. No problem with return journey timings as arranged... More

Bako National Park is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited and there's so many amazing animals, beaches and forests. We had a great time there, but it was marred by the truly horrendous accommodation. I'd backpacked around for two months before staying here and so had stayed in a lot of hostels, most of which were... More

You will definitely see proboscis monkeys, and langurs if you keep looking up at the trees. Macaques are everywhere and a bit of a pest. There are wild boar roaming around which have become friendly and are quite fun to watch. On night safari you will see snakes and tons of frogs. The trails were quite poor with the wooden... More

we stayed here two nights and three days. twice saw proboscis, tried one trekking. though little comfort ( the worst was absence of AC and water of some orange color runnung from the taps) still you live very close to the nature and can observe wild life and stunning jungle as long as you want. accomodation is cheap. what was... We did not stay overnight in the park but just on a day trip organised by ourselves. arrive at the jetty early enough as tide can be a problem to go there. 95 RM per boat and you can find people to share the ride to go to the park. A lot of treks and option for walks, we took... More

The park is stunning but..... The boat system is way too complicated and you arrive with more stress than is necessary. I wasn't sure if my accommodation was booked so we wanted a single. This is not possible. (er. why?) You have to come back with the people who you came with which is ridiculous. After queuing up for our... More

We stayed 3 nights at the park and we really enjoyed our time. THUMBS UP!!! The big drawback was the organization of the boat trips to the park. It was a mess and for sure they have to change something in the near future. The big problem is that you have to buy your return ticket already when you arrive... More

We hired a private guide for the day and were glad we did. He was an excellent botanist, and very familiar with the trails. I was torn about spending the night, kind of wish we did to have seen more wildlife. But I had heard too much about horrid accommodations there! The food was not good in the cafeteria-bring your...
