As a Moscow virgin, I had no idea what awaited me. I need not have worried as the city is very nice.
The Ulanskaya is situated in a quiet backstreet, 100 yds from the Metro and only a 30min walk from Red Square. The hotel blurb says 20mins and it probably would be if you knew where you were going....

A very good, affordable option in central Moscow next to 3 metro stops. The staff is very helpful, the rooms are very nice (renovated, clean) and I am always happy to stay at the hotel when visiting Moscow. The prices in comparison to most other options are wonderful.
