I did a lot of research on the ryokans in Kyoto before deciding on Nishiyama, mainly due to the good reviews here and it fit my budget as well! Room rates are horribly expensive during cherry blossom season! Well, I'm glad I made the right choice as I had a really wonderful time at the ryokan. Nishiyama is not a... More

Our first two nights in Kyoto, we chose at Nishiyama Ryokan because we wanted to experience a more traditional Japanese stay with the public bath and the option of Japanese meals. The location was close and convenient to shopping, sights, and restaurants. Hot water and tea were provided in the Japanese style rooms with the tatami mats. It was a... More

Excellent service and perfectly comfortable accommodation, we highly recommend this Ryokan to anybody wanting to stay in Kyoto. In addition to your private bathroom, you can also use the public bath facilities downstairs which offers showers and a good hot bath. The traditional breakfast is certainly a worthwhile experience and were treated to a graceful and intriguing tea ceremony afterwards.... More

My husband, daughter and I spent three very relaxing days at Nishiyama Ryokan and we can highly recommend this accommodation for an authentic Japanese experience. The staff is extremely friendly and polite and communication was no problem at all. We felt like we were visiting family. We loved the traditional Japanese rooms and sleeping on the futon mats was more... More

We stayed here for 3 nights while travelling around Japan on holiday. This has a good mix of modern ryokan with (some) traditional aspects - the building is quite modern but the rooms are in a Japanese style with paper doors, tatami mats and futons for sleeping on. We had the traditional Japanese breakfast one of the mornings, and it... More

This Ryokan is located in the heart of Kyoto and does not pretend to be an old fashioned Ryokan - it is in quite a modern building but its in the style of a tradiational Ryokan and we totally loved this place! The room was spacious, clean and comfortable - lots of room for luggage and to move around (despite... More

The staffs are all so helpful and great. My friend and I had a great time during our staying. The location is convenient, few minutes walk from the subway and bus station. Many restaurants and mini market are nearby, you can find the food anytime. The rate is acceptable. I would recommend Nishiyama Ryokan to my firends. More

The ryokan is very clean and the staffs are very nice and helpful. We have the best stay in Nishiyama Ryokan even though it was only 1 night. The rate is not expensive if you compare to other ryokan rate in Kyoto, of cause you can find a cheaper rate if you stay in a guesthouse or backpacker but I... More

I returned to Nishiyama Ryokan for a second visit in April after my first visit in February 2011. The staff and management are graceful hosts and do everything they can to make your stay easy. The Nishiyama Ryokan was a great pick for our 3 nights in Kyoto. It allowed us to experience tradition in Japan in our favorite city - Kyoto - without breaking the bank with expensive rates. The location was FABULOUS - it was very easy walking into the shopping district as well as the night district for bars. They have tea... More
