My wife and I stayed here for a second time in May 2013. The first time we were happy to get a queen sized bed, but opted for the full (twin) on the second trip. The room was the exact same size and the extra space was welcome. We really loved the freebies - rasor/shave cream; toothbrushes, hairbrushes and. .... More

Comfy (small) room and good location between two subway stations. Bus stops and shops nearby. The staff's English could be better but they were very nice and quite efficient. Decent value for money outside week-ends. Better request a room that does not give onto the avenue.

The hotel does make a big effort to provide the appearance of great service. However, no matter how many uniformed staff there may be around to bow and scrape and apologize, they cannot make up for inexcusable and sloppy management practices. The hotel has windows. In nearly all of the hotel rooms the windows open. It's springtime: who wouldn't want... More

2 minute walk from the nearest metro station and a 10 minute walk from the main shopping streets the hotel is ideally located. There are a few restaurants on the same street as well as some convenience stores and starbucks (as with the rest of Japan!!) The rooms are lovely and ours had a cracking view of the mountains. Staff... More

We were surprised when we arrived at the hotel how beautiful it was. The room was modern, crisp and clean and the hotel itself was uniquely designed and stunning in some respects. There was an additional fee to use the pool/spa which we didn't have time for anyhow. I would highly recommend it. It's located near a lot of things... More

This was a great hotel - really close to the subway - few minutes from Kyoto station - modern hotel - we had a striped red room and it was actually not as full on as I thought it would be - bathrooms are colourful though. Big room - we got a twin room - extra space. Internet was quick... More

As a former U.S. college exchange student to Kyoto, Japan (39 years ago!!), this was my first visit back to Kyoto and its wonderful attractions. I selected the Hotel Monterey due to its excellent location close to the Imperial Palace grounds (great for morning walk or jog), nearby Teramachi shopping area, Shijo retail center and the amazing Nishiki food market.... We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights in early April 2013. Our original thoughts was that this place might be a bit out of the main hub of things, as the main Kyoto Station was 2.5 km south. But it turned out to be an ideal location, as the main restaurant/drinking/ area was just east of the hotel, while... More

The Monterey is well-located only a hop-skip-jump from a convient subway station a mere 10 minutes from the Kyoto Railway Station. It's a small walk to the former Imperial Park and there are other sights close-by. A bit of a longer walk will take you to the beautiful banks of the Kamo-gawa, the Kamo River. Hotel reception and lobby are... More

Good location and very clean, our hotel was completely full as it was the height of cherry blossom season. Compared with the size of Tokyo hotel rooms, our room was indeed spacious. With a good bathroom, and the room well decorated I would happily stay here again. I was advised not to include breakfast in my online booking as, at... More
