I was disappointed when pulling up to the hotel, not for the appearance, but because of the area. The property next to the hotel looks derelict and because it was like 1am, there were drug addicts across the road. My friends and I we're greeted by a very confident security man and escorted in to the hotel. The clean room... More

Good points: Comfortable rooms Delicious breakfast Excellent service with friendly staff who take their time to help you. Wifi and internet room One return taxi ride offered to Pelourinho per day Good rate offered on hotels.com Bad points: In a really dodgy area full of thieves and vagrants. Do not try to walk there, get a taxi. Last free taxi... More

Much of what others said is true...cute little hotel, quaint, nice service, but after seeing a bit of Salvador, I thought it would be better to stay in a neighborhood with access to buses. Breakfast was delicious, but there was no hot option (usually Brazilian bfasts include eggs, too) and it go kind of monotonous after a few days. Return... More

The hotel itself is great, with quaint old furniture and the concept of the old doors from various parts is very interesting. Service is good and they offer a drop and pick up service to and from Pelourinho. The only problem is the location, you absolutely need to call a cab to pick you up and need to get dropped... More

Casa das Portas Velhas is a true little jewel once you cross the entrance. Warm and dedicated reception, the lobby and the tiny bar make you feel at home and quickly forget about the gadgets of a huge world-chain hotel. Interior decorations have a consistent thread with old wooden doors and keys, that explain the portuguese name of the hotel.... More

-At first, a bit worried since other travellers wrote it is in a bad neighbourhood, but based on my stay I would go back. -Front desk extremely helpful and friendly. They took time to give directions and advice on sites and restaurants. Excellent English - a lot of staff travelled abroad (i.e. Europe, USA) - We were greeted with a... More

The hotel is charmingly decorated, the restaurant serves fresh pasta and although the location is not great it is not as bad as one would think. The area is not considered the safest however the hotel offers free shuttle service to the historic center only 10 minutes away. The rooms are spacious, internet is fast and free, can be used... We stayed 3 nights in this very stylish hotel. Although the location does not seem great at first glance, the hotel provides complimentary taxis that bring you to Pelurinho. Also, we found out the next to the hotel there are 3-4 very popular restaurants that serve excellent food and drinks to locals. You can have your dinner next next door... More

Not a good area of Salvador to stay in, a young German couple were mugged at machete point in one of the side streets nearby while we were there. Stray dogs kept us awake all night howling and barking under the window not helped by a pane of glass being missing. The carpet was dirty and the ceiling spot lights... More

This hotel is a very nice little place, well styled with interesting spaces, and well priced. Unfortunately its not in a good location to get around. The hotel offers a voucher style taxi service to and from the Pelo... but its pretty hard if not impossible to organise a return by voucher to the hotel, especially when its raining as... More
