This large hotel merges tastefully into its desert environment and has some great features such as the 3 story high lobby with beautiful traditional art and wood work. The roof top terrace if the weather obliges is a wonderful place to soak up the scenery and peace and quiet. A great place for a late afternoon drink too. The rooms... More

There are a lot of good things to say about this hotel. Very friendly, helpful staff, and there was usually someone among the front desk staff who spoke English. Lovely architecture and decoration (including in the guest rooms), with an "Old Silk Road theme" (not *quite* overly Disneylandish!). A Chinese restaurant with really tasty food, the best food we had... More

Besides the interesting architecture and great location near the dunes, the staff was outstanding. My son had to go to the hospital, and when I asked the manager, Linda, to call a taxi, she let us use the hotel van and driver. At the hospital, the driver found a nurse who spoke English, and he stayed with us the whole... More

This is beautifully designed building that is located near the sand dunes. We were there in March and it felt near-empty. Breakfast was delicious and, contrary to the previous review, we had Western-styled TV and free Wifi in our room. The only (minor) annoyance was the fact that they refused to change our third floor room to one with a... More

Designed as a caravanserai on the Silk Road, the hotel has a number of impressive buildings and a good hold on what a foreign traveller needs in this tourist town of north China. The rooms are very nice and inline with the theme, having stone floors, a large local rug, wood trimmings and matching amenities. Breakfast was outstanding for China... More

We were on a family and friends trip to the silk road, and were quite happy to have found this very nice and decent hotel to stay at while visiting Dunhuang, Gansu. Certainly one of the best local hotels. (Having been in China for over 10 years, we were actually very nicely surprised). Great facilities, comfortable and cosy room, decorated... More

I took my 8 year old for a trip along the silk road and this is the place we really enjoyed. The staff there were very helpful and friendly. And the buffet served in the morning had plenty of options and It was located at a patio where you can see the amazing sand dunes. Very nice hotel I should... More

I chose this hotel because of its' proximity to the sand dunes and the quality of the setting and service. I'm usually a no frills and no tour groups traveler, but decided to treat myself to this hotel after 2 weeks in western Mongolia with little running water. Everything about this hotel is excellent, especially for the price. Although it... More

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, and the view of the sand dunes at sunset are spectacular. The only downside to this hotel is the abysmal service which might be due to the completely inadequate dining facilities in terms of size and competence of staff. It seems that, if you're in a party of... More
