My family stayed at this hotel for the weekend. During the course of the stay my mom took a nap while the rest of the family left on an outing. Seeing the car leave, someone working in the hotel used a key to open the door to the room, then seeing my mom in the bed, quickly grabbed her purse... More

My husband and I stayed at the St. James Hotel in Selma during Pilgrimage Weekend. While it is located in the old part of town, that is to be expected in an historic hotel such as this. Our room was spacious and clean. The weather was fine, so we were able to enjoy a glass of wine in their charming... More

The St. James is an old historic hotel maintained by the City of Selma. It's claim to fame is that it was where Jesse and Frank James "vacationed" when they were taking a break from robbing banks and trains. In fact, Jesse is supposed to haunt the old hotel, and there's a second ghost, the lovely Lucinda, whose portrait hangs... More

While I can respect the "historical" nature of a facility, should the mattress be historical too?! This is the worst mattress I have ever slept on in a hotel and based on my travels with personal and work I have slept every where from Comfort Inn to The Four Seasons. Okay, the next morning my husband needed to gently touch... More

My husband and I had a room at the St. James Hotel for a wedding I was in in Selma. From the website and description it looked very quaint and historic, and we were excited to stay there. However, when we got there we were VERY disappointed. Not only was it in an unsafe part of town, our room was... More

I stayed at the St James Hotel as part of a civil rights road trip. I was in Selma to see the Edmund Petrus Bridge and visit the National Voting Rights Museum. The St James Hotel is the only hotel in downtown Selma. If you want one of the chain motels you will these a further mile or so out... More

My family and I traveled to the Selma area to celebrate our family reunion. Very exciting time for us since we only have the opportunity to gather once every other year. The St. James Hotel served as the host for our memorable event. The rooms were very dated. Poor lighting in the stairway. The windows in the guest room did... More

First of all...the drive into Selma was extremely unsettling!! My husband and I were quite shaky about parking and actually getting out of our car to check in. We are "welcomed" at the front desk by Gail--on her cell phone. After about five minutes, she told the party on the other end of the line that she would have to... More

Part of a roadtrip, we ended up in Selma. Alabama . And I am old enough to remember Martin Luther King. We 'dropped in' the St James and it was wonderfu. Pleasant surprise. Nicely done. Have I said I liked the St. James yet? Hotel was slow, and, we are in the business so we got upgraded to a corner... More
