The rooms are huge and elegant with large terraces where we hung out on the hammock. Loved that. Lots of monkeys around the pool and property, so we spent alot of time there. Their beach is not great, too rocky, but again we saw monkeys there so it was worth going to. More

My wife and I went to Makanda by the Sea in early May, 2012 on our honeymoon. The first location we stayed in Costa Rica was Nayara (near Arenal volcano), which set the bar high. After flying into Quepos airport (recommended to save driving time), we got to the hotel. On first impression, the pool and grounds were incredible. We... More

After spending several days in the cool mountains, we stayed at the Makanda by the Sea for two nights so we could see Manuel Antonio on our way to the Jaco region. It was truly one of the highlights of our trip. It was so hot compared to the mountains and after we took the guided tour of the park,... More

Had a wonderful time in MA, mostly due to our stay at Makanda. We were on a week+ long trip to CR, ending with 5 days in MA. We also planned to elope there. True to many who choose to get married this way, we wanted something simple, romantic, beautiful (and most of all...stress free). We could not have imagined... More

I have a lot of reviews to do for our 5 night trip to Manuel Antonio but I wanted to do this one first because we loved Makanda so much. We stayed two nights here, two nights at Arenas del Mar and one night in SJ. For us, an early 40s couple with no kids looking for a relaxing, beautiful,... More

Having walked by on many occasions I was finally grateful to sit and have lunch by the pool. A beautiful setting overlooking the Pacific. Cuban pulled pork sandwich was very tasty and reasonable with a cold drink for 6,000 colones $12.00. This is a classy place but the staff need to spend alittle more attention to the glassware - several... More

My wife and I stayed in a villa at Hotel Makanda for three nights during an 11 day vacation to Costa Rica in early March. It is a truly wonderful place to stay and would be an ideal location for a honeymoon. The setting with the balconies overlooking the jungle and ocean beyond is simply superb and the balcony was... Travelled to Manuel Antonio on several occasions. You can't beat the location and beaches. Always wanted to stay at Makanda. In the past would come up from the beach and dip into their awesome pool and enjoy drinks with a sunset. Rooms offer privacy and open verandas. Was kindly upgraded to a villa and enjoyed a large room, bathroom, comfortable... More

My husband and I visited Makanda By the Sea in March 2012 for 8 days. We had the best vacation imaginable. Leo from reservations helped us plan our trip and was extremely accomodating during our stay. Leo answered my daily emails prior to our trip and assisted us in every way possible. Darwin also from reservations was excellent and helped... More
