In a neat, antique building in San Jose's nicest colonial historical neighborhood, you're not far from the center - but it's a much quieter and nicer area than the bustling and sometimes dangerous center. some museums are just walking distance, otherwise you might want to grab a taxi to get here. Once you arrive, the rooms I've seen are very... More

Cinco Hormigas Rojas is a unique little bed and breakfast near Downtown San Jose. We found it in a guide book a few years back and stayed 2 nights. During our first visit we enjoyed the colorful and artistic decor, as well as, the patio that is full of plants, birds, and bats. Mayra was really helpful and arranged a... More

I ve spent some nights there and I wouldn t recommend this place at all. First we had to pay for all the night we had made a reservation for. Since we arrived there at night and we didn t fell like searching for another place, we did pay but we were stuck there after that *we didn t want... More

Mayra's arranged taxi driver couldn't find the place, so look for the overgrown bamboo & vines spilling out over the street about 100 feet away from Cafe Mundo. Our guidebook described it very well as: "IF you only have ONE night". Generally a disappointment as from an old picture, the place seemed to have been in good shape once. Mayra... More

We arrived at Five Red Ants on our first night in Costa Rica after dark because we could not find it and when we did, it was not possible to stop on the street. Let's back up. We had a GPS but the folks at Dollar Rent A Car could not find it in the system so gave us the... More

I can understand some of the complaints here. Mayra the owner is a true excentric, and I can see that she has a dark side. To us she was lovely. Completely batty like the ones flying around in her mini jungle. I can't help but liking her, but I would not like to be in her bad books. This is... More

but it just isn't worth the price. We booked here so that we could try to birdwatch while in San Jose for a few days and it sounded fun. We saw no birds or bats and even if we had wanted to sit and relax in the "yard" there is no place to do so because plants cover every inch... More

When we arrived at the hotel and we were greeted by the owner, who was described by the Lonely Planet guide as a bit of an excentric. Wait a minute! This woman has a full blown bordeline personality disorder!! The place is popular for its in-town jungle/ecosystem that is visited by many birds. When she opened the door to our... More

I arrived late in the evening, but Mayra had fresh coffee and tea made for me. Had the entire upstairs BB to myself. The artwork and "jungle garden" are amazing, and a boxed breakfast was waiting for me in the morning. More

If you read the reviews, go to the website, this is exactly as it is described. It is a city "jungle" in the middle of San Jose. It is a bed and breakfast. You will be greeted after honking the horn in the trees, by a very vibrant and artist home owner. She will share her home with you and... More
