I guess it wasn't terrible, but the beds and room sucked. the room had open windows to the "common area" it made it difficult to sleep. also, not window to the outside, no fan. it was hot and stuffy. The included Breakfast was a joke. toast with butter. No thanks.

Very nice and courteous staff. Old building, not necessarily well cared for. Cleanliness to be desired. Not much other than the staff to write home about...later found much better options for same price in San Jose.

Just stayed two nights (1 at the beginning and 1 at the end of our Costa Rica trip) at Kabata. The place is secure as in they always keep the door locked. Really enjoyed the stay here. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Anything that you could want to do in Costa Rica, they can help. The hostel is clean and the rooms are good compared to other hostels.
