After a miserable time down the street at the cesspool/Dump of Red Dog Saloon (see review) we walked up the street to this warm and friendly crowd at the Alaskan. Great selection of beer on draft and we could have a free sample to try one we like. At Red Dog Dump I wanted to try a sample / taste... More

I love the charm and decor of the Alaskan. Although, basic amenities are lacking (examples: Rented a Kitchen room with no dishes or microwave provided, could not get a hair dryer or an ironing board). It takes the right kind of person to enjoy the loppsided hallways, shared bathrooms and the unique vibe of downtown Juneau. Cheers Alaskan I'll be... More

I simply am impressed with the management and staff. As historic as a hotel comes, conveniently located in the downtown area, close to restaraunts, library, shopping and nightlife. Upgrades/new carpeting, clean and comfortable beds with cable TV/High Speed internet and every thing you need to be comfortable and enjoy Junea, and at a price that is not matched by any... More

If you are looking for a Holiday Inn, this is not for you but if you would enjoy a taste of the Alaska goldrush days this fits the bill. The 100 year old hotel is authentically renovated with lots of carved wood, stained glass and period furniture. The location in downtown Juneau is excellent. Step out the front door and... More

I too stayed here after reading reviews about a lovely historical hotel in my travel guide. I booked room 311 which has it's own bathroom and kitchenette including microwave, fridge and stove. Rate online said $120 incl tax...not true. $134 after tax per night plus $50 deposit. Be prepared to haul your luggage up the stairs with no assistance. The... More

Why didn't we read TripAdvisor first?? We arrived at 7:30pm on a Wed night; no one was at the desk. Eventually a young man appeared and tried to help although he was not an employee (he later was the guy who parked his two bikes in front of the stairs totally blocking access). Later a young woman appeared and seemed... More

I don't think I have to add anything else, except that manager is so greedy that after I bring dead mouse into the front desk from my room he wouldn't even give me any discount! More

We were excited about staying at this historic hotel. It had been recommended in a guidebook which did NOT prepare us for the fact that it is now essentially a flophouse. The desk wanted a $50 deposit for any damages we might cause and there was a sign posted that all visitors must leave by 11 p.m. plus anyone not... More

The guidebook said this place was basic but that it was clean and had historic charm. The outside is definitely charming, but inside it is filthy, noisy, run down. We had to switch floors because NONE of the shared bathrooms was usable on our original floor and the staff told me they had no intention of cleaning them up (prior... More

I wanted to travel just like a pioneer, without camping out, I wanted basics, a bed and a toliet and historic- surroundings---so there is no hairdryer, coffemaker, no hotel wake-up call etc--- my room was cute in a very old=fashion way--yes there were some areas that could have been touched up, but I did find it to be clean--aliitle cold...
