We stayed at Smiling Bear during the summer of 2011 for at least 3 to 4 weeks. My family was newly transferred to Kodiak and we were waiting for Coast Guard housing to be available. Darlene went above and beyond to make us feel at home, even our dog Rosie was happy there. :) The rooms were very comfortable, and... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at The Smiling Bear earlier this month. Although we spent the days with our nephew and his family (he is with the Coast Guard there), we looked forward to getting back to Darlene's wonderful first floor suite. It was supplied with every amenity one could ask for. Darlene's breakfasts were great...something different every... More

Our trip to Kodiak was a bit last minute and we were there before the beginning of true bear season, but we still had a nice time. While in Homer, AK I was informed by a very nice shop keeper, that B&Bs are really the way to go in Alaska, I heeded her suggestion when booking in Kodiak. The Smiling... More

We stayed with Darlene for 2 nights while we fished, hiked and drove around Kodiak. The suite was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and, as the only guests, served on our desired schedule. Darlene is a wonderful hostess - we loved all the Alaska art, nature photographs, and the relaxed atmosphere of Smiling Bear. The chainsaw bear art around... More

We stayed with Darlene for 10 nights and couldn't have been happier! The downstairs suite was huge and had plenty of room for our family of four. Darlene offered her washer and dryer so we could keep up on laundry. The breakfasts were as good as any fancy restaurant I've eaten at in the lower 48 and Darlene gives you... More

This is a wonderful place to stay and in such a beautiful place! Our family had a great time here and would go back in a minute. Extremely nice and the breakfasts are wonderful! Darlene couldn't be a better hostess and goes way out of her way to make your stay perfect. I would highly recommend to anyone staying at... More

Great home away from home! Darlene was great and she cooks a mean breakfast. My room was nice and clean with a big bathroom and a jacuzzi tub. I was able to connect to the internet with no problem. All the movie channels were available. It made it real easy to relax after a long day of work.

As a former resident of Kodiak, I found A Smiling Bear B&B as an outstanding alternative to a hotel stay for a recent business trip there. This B&B has an inviting atmosphere in a scenic and quiet location, and is only mintues away from Kodiak. The nights were quiet, the air was fresh, the conversation enjoyable, and the room was... My husband and I spent 3 delightful days at Darlene Turner's B&B. Darlene was so helpful with directions, things to do and restaurants. She even came up with some rubber boots for me to wear on our kayak trip - way above what is expected from a B&B. Her breakfasts were great - especially the homemade muffins. Darlene is very... More

We've seen lots of lodges, B&B and hotels in Alaska durinIg our complete stay - and Darlene's B&B was certainly one of our highlights. It felt a little like staying in a family.
