This is a restored Historic Building. Because of this the floors creek, the walls are thin, things are out of level, power outlets are at a premium, etc. If you enjoy history and historical places it is easy to overlook these shortcomings. The restoration is very well done, the rooms are nicely appointed and comfortable. I definitely recommend this location... More

I'm from Fairbanks and was in Palmer for the State Fair and to attend a wedding. I wasn't impressed by the Colony Inn. It did have pleasant staff, but the check in was confusing as you have to go to another hotel (Valley Hotel) to get your key. No one explained this to me when I made reservations over the... More

My husband and I stay here when in town to watch our son's high school football games (once a year). I have just a couple of things to add as most of the reviews here are spot on. Check-in is never a pleasant experience. Never have we been smiled at or had the normal hotel "welcome" chatter. This is however,... More

The Colony has been accurately reviewed by others, but there are a few things to add. Although it isn't advertised as an adult environment, with the antiques and the stairs it is a place where children would have to be carefully supervised. There is a park adjoining with nice walking paths but no children's equipment in sight. The rooms are... More

There's no way this is a 4 or 5 star Inn no matter how you stretch it, but they're not trying to be either. Everything written so far is accurate about you having to get the key at another hotel, they don't always tell you this, they don't give you the wireless network key unless you remember to ask (and... Most people who visit the small town of Palmer most likely do so when in the area to view the great outdoors; however, I was in town on business, and was there after the tourists had left. When I arrived at the hotel, it seemed deserted, and did not even have a front desk. Luckily another guest arrived, and told... More

Like other reviewers, we found this a charming and comfortable place to stay. It is a former residence for teachers of colonists who came to Alaska to start farming in the area during the Great Depression. Viewing an old picture book in the living room of the facility gave us a good idea of the project that brought immigrants from... More

We decided to stay in Palmer on our way from Denali to Matanuska Glacier. It's a convenient stop along the highway and is close to stunning scenery all around. It's also fairly close to Anchorage, which is where we headed next. Palmer is a charming little town that feels like Mayberry RFD. The Colony Inn delivers historical charm and is... More

I think Palmer is one of the most undervalued cities in Alaska. I pop up there occasionally to take yoga and dance classes and for the fabulous, accessible hiking. I booked a room at the Colony Inn without knowing anything about it and what a wonderful surprise! Charming room full of antiques and within walking distance of Palmer's wonderful restaurants... This was a neat place to stay. It was originally a teachers dorm. Rooms are nice and clean. There is no staff here, they are located in another hotel a few blocks from the Colony Inn. I liked the history of the place. There was a washer and dryer, free of charge, and lots of books on the area in... More
