Stayed there a few weeks ago. I was only intending on spending 1 night but ended up staying 5. A very new and modern hostel still with the smell of new leather. One of the most modern hostels I've stayed at. Simon was awesome and very nice, full of lots of local knowledge. Hope to return soon. - Richard, Australia More

We're an older couple and stayed in an ensuited room with mountain views. We were able to use the kitchens which had granite benches, were sparkling clean as was the office area and the common areas of the various lodges. Lots of walks to do in Ohakune and it is a scenic wonder, even out of the ski season.. Try... More

Where do i start. The man working on reception was extremely rude and didn't give us any help or information about Ohakune. The reception was always closed. We stayed in the old lodge which was dark, cold and dirty. The hostel didn't provide us with many kitchen facilities. We had to search high and low for forks and bowls. We... More

These people also stayed in the old matai lodge. Please get your facts right and do not post reviews of other lodges on our site. This old matai is the cheapest place to stay in town, most people who stay there actually live there, hence why it may be messy at times. Once again they should have payed the extra... More

These people did not stay at LKNZ Lodge. They stayed at the old matai lodge, a budget accommodation next door used primarily for long term stayers. Occasionally when LKNZ Lodge is booked out we will offer people to stay here, but only if they are desperate for somewhere to stay because the cleaning and maintenance of this place is up... More

We chose this hostel only because we were misadvised about our first choice being further away than it actually is - but it had a good write up in BBH New Zealander Mag and had the International Youth Hostels logo on display as well as BBH membership. When we were negotiating accommodation, the guy on reception told us - no,... More

Clearly someone who is advertising our rivals. Yes thank you the lodge is nice and clean, but don't just thank the cleaning lady our receptionist also do a quick clean of the common areas twice a day. We take great pride in being the most modern, most budget friendly lodge in Ohakune, most guests have nothing but positive things to... More

Wow, is all I can say. As a frequent traveller to the Turoa ski fields side of the mountain, I was quite unprepared for what has happened to this property, the first place you come to in Ohakune as you approach from the National Park end. Where to start? This place has been rebranded to LKNZ (Local Knowledge NZ) from... More

Basic place that was satisfactory. Handy location. Frigid bathrooms. Frigid female receptionist at checkout (the guy at checkin was ok). The kitchen was pretty small, and the whole place just felt rather dull. Some fresh paint and renovations would help. Outside it's a construction zone with all sorts of new buildings being put up (part of Matai Lodge), so if... More

Being students on a tight budget this met our every need. We were travelling in a group of 6, so they people here gave us two rooms, one with a double bed and the other of two bunk beds, very hostel like. We had went after Mardi gras weekend, hence there weren't too many people. 4 bathrooms (inlclusive of toilets)... More
