Had a great stay here; got upgraded to a beautiful suite at no extra charge. Great food at both restaurants for both breakfast and dinner; nice warm, rustic decor and really friendly staff. Lovely walks around the hotel; highly recommended. More

The Powderhorn is a world class hotel located on the door step of the wildnerness that is Tongariro National Park. This is really a unique building - almost everything is made of wood. Lights are candle-shaped. The front doors and doors to the guest wing are automatic, but they don't slide they open towards you which was a Harry-Potteresque touch.
