I met Randy and Carlos - the owners of Monte Azul - at a cheese tasting (cheeses they had made themselves) and when they told me about their little cabinas up in the mountains of Costa Rica I knew that they were talking about something special. Since that first meeting I have been their twice, both for 3 days at... More

Dear LoveWanderLust12, We are overwhelmed by your wonderful review, thank you! It was a joy to have you here, and we were especially honored that you came back with your Mum, who came all the way from South Africa. Your comments about the food are very much appreciated, especially since at first we were a little intimidated by your background... More

I would like to begin by saying that I was looking for some place entirely different when I ran across Monte Azul on the internet. This was an auspicious turn of events for my brand new husband and me. We got married on the coast and traveled inland to this haven in the rain forest. It was beautiful and pristine,... More

My husband and I are not very seasoned international travelers, however, after our last trip to an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica, we were looking for something more off-the-beaten-trail. Monte Azul delivered exactly what we were looking for. Our every need was taken care of by the wonderful staff and we enjoyed some great, unique experiences while exploring beautiful Costa Rica.... All our senses were fully captivated with the incredible essence of the surrounding mountainous environment, having the Chirripo River within short reach - exploration of the trails on the preserve rich with flora and fauna spoke to a glorious retreat. Being enveloped in a chic casita with original artwork, delectable meals with a 5 star presentation and a menu of... More

This is a great boutique hotel next to an amazing rushing river. Peaceful, modern, funky, and the food is incredible. One of the coolest and most romantic places I've stayed. I was looking for something memorable, unique, and inviting in the mountains, and Monte Azul jumped out at me from the beginning of my search. I'm very glad we ended... More

I attended Monted Azul in March of 2011 with ten other birders. Besides birding I love and participate in art and great food makes a great trip. I have never experienced anything like Monte Azul. Every detail is an experience, the design of the rooms, the sitting area outside, the trails, art work, the river that runs along side of it,... More

Dear Scott C, You and your group certainly got the most of you visit to Monte Azul! We love the Gabriel García Marquez reference, anyone who knows his work will have a vivid picture of the scenery here. I travel to Costa Rica for business and pleasure several times a year. I stayed at Monte Azul one night. My biggest regret is that I did not spend more time there. Impeccably clean, great people, great service and food. Plenty of activities, too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place. Though, you really need at least three days to fully appreciate. More

Monte Azul is my favorite hotel in Costa Rica. I loved everything about it... It has a perfect location - close enough to town of San Isidro yet nicely tucked away in the mountains to give you the feeling of being surrounded by pure nature and wilderness. The design and architecture is fantastic. It's a perfect combination of clean, minimalist... More

Having visited several different sites in Costa Rica before arriving here at Monte Azul, I can honestly say that we didn't truly unwind (we thought we had!) before arriving here at the last leg of our trip. Regretfully, I wish we had spent more time here because of the location, the people, the food and the abundant amount of activities!... More

By far one of the best hotels we've ever stayed at. It's off the beaten path, but the isolation of the casitas is fabulous as is the food and service of the staff. Take the guided hike of the property and hike Cloudbridge, tough, but really, really scenic and informative. No complaints! More
