This is a real gem. The room was great, the Internet was free and very fast but the best part was our dinner. We arrived late and I'm a vegetarian. The waitress told the chef and despite the late hour he made me a special vegetarian meal that was truly gourmet. Everyone on the staff was extremely friendly and helpful... More

From the outside the hotel looks unexciting. But why would you build a palace in a country where earthquakes are frequent. The timber construction of the Hekla would probably stand a tremor or two and be easily repaired if damage were done. But the rooms had all expected facilities and the dining room was large and airy. In particular, the... More

A proud hotel with great staff. Rooms with panoramic views of the Volcano Hekla in the distance. Great outdoor Jacuzzi with seating for plenty. The property is adding new rooms and renovating to more boutique standards. Should be done by end of 2013. Did not interfere in any way with enjoyment of the guests. A Charming owner and a great... This is a comfortable hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are a little old fashioned but are a good size. On the down side ,there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedrooms and you have to walk down draughty corridors to a communal area where there is a kettle and tea and coffee provided. Not... If you are looking for something different and a potentally wonderful view of the Northern Lights you cannot fault the Hekla. The staff were extremely friendly and we put our names down on a list at reception for a wakeup call to view the Northern lights and a discreet knock on the door meant we were able to view them at... We did not hold out great hopes for this hotel based on previous Tripadvisor reviews, but we were very pleased indeed! The room was somewhat dated, with heavy wooden furniture and ornate bed-throw, but at least the room was not shabby like our previous effort! It was what it says on the can - "a Country-style Hotel". The bed was... More

Staff could not have been more helpful. Helped us with booking tours and gave lots of great advice. Rooms were a decent size. We ate at the restaurant and had great meals at not over the top price. Quite a modern feel to the hotel. Not 5 star luxury if that's what you after but a great friendly well located... More

Country hotel in good location as a base for travelling in the South. Clean rooms. No radiator in bathroom so difficult to dry clothes. Would benefit from tea and coffee facilities in rooms during winter season, kettle in downstairs area but not always stocked with cups and milk. Games room and lounge with bar, hot tub outside. A reasonable stop... More

I appreciate my views aren’t of some on here but I can only report on my experience at the time of my stay. (I believe that since some of the reviews were written there are new owners who took over shortly before my stay.) I was expecting a very basic hotel and so my expectations were not high, but basic... More
