We went to this hotel with friends as it was recommended to us and had good ratings on tripadvisor. I found the location not as breathtaking as I expected. Instead of a view of the lake there is a view over the nearby powerplant. The sulphorous smell also needs some getting used to. However, the famous Thingvellir lake is indeed... More

Where you arrive (from Þingvellir) the first sight that awaits you is the massive power plant oozing out steam. As you arrive at ION you realise just how much work the owners have put into their hotel. Rooms are nicely decorated, food is nice and hotel staff is friendly. The wine list at the restaurant and at drinks at the... More

As you arrive, the hotel might be a bit disappointing. A concrete box, set against a beautiful backdrop of hills with a geo-thermal station pumping out columns of smoke (not quite like it looks on the website). Inside, it is Scandinavian minimalism. We had a standard room, looking towards the lake - nice view, well designed room and bathroom (if... More

After reading about the Hotel in Wallpaper Magazine, I had to stop to check it out. Only open this spring, the hotel does as would any, have minor kinks to work out, but everything was designed to impress. The Rooms were impeccable and ultra modern. The common area was spacious. The Spa and outdoor pool were heaven. The setting, inside... More

We stayed in a deluxe room overlooking the lake for night in May, as a couple. Checked in at 15:00, they walk you to the room and show you around.. The room was very bright, modern, clean and had a really good shower and the bed was extra comfy! We went straight to the spa, witch we had all to... More

We stayed here because we got a great deal and it seemed to be very convenient to see many of the attractions in the area. While the hotel is extremely convenient, we had to do some white-knuckling on route 360 to get out in our 2WD rental car. Being naive of how variable Icelandic weather can be in April, we... More

We stayed at Ion for a long weekend in Mid March, as a base to see some of the Island and perhaps, if we were lucky, the Northern Lights. Now I should say at this point that if you are looking for an aesthetically pleasing building, then this may not be for you. However, once through the doors, we were... More

This hotel had not long been open when we stayed. It has got many things right and we really enjoyed our three night stay. There is room for improvement though - but nothibng so dreadful as to cause a problem. It would have been particularly useful to have had an in-room information pack provided - you have to ask about... More

We stayed in this hotel for three nights as part of a longer trip to Iceland. This hotel sells itself as a more up market hotel than most in Iceland and this is reflected in the price. A lot of effort has obviously been put into the décor of the hotel, with quite a contemporary and original finish. However, less... More

We stayed for two nights a couple of weeks ago, over a weekend. There are many positives about this hotel - the view from the room was lovely, the room itself was well-appointed, the bar is a great space in which to chill. However, there are currently flaws that let the place down, which mostly seem to reflect poor management... More
