It was 1 night, after a wedding. The room was very comfortable, although if you are above average height, beware the beams. Creaky floorboards are a bit loud, and the adjoining walls, paper-thin. Room was set to a heating timer, I think. Got quite hot. Fantastic breakfast buffet, helpful and knowledgeable staff. As said, was only one night, but we... More

Two of us stayed in The Bear Hotel for 2 nights. We came straight from Russia with bussines. Excellent receptionist, fast check in. Problem with internet connection, at every hour is shutting down. Food was excelent, nice various menu, one waiter (Alex) the romanian if I remember well was very friendly, he speak to as Russian and Greek language, we... More

I came to the bear many years ago when it was the place to come, so when I got a few days off before our holiday we thought we would start it early and stay at The Bear, a sort of pre-holiday break. How disappointed I was with standards, cleanliness and attitudes of staff! When we arrived at reception we... More

I am mortified to read this reviewers comments and can not apologise enough for the way these guests were spoken to by a member of my staff; It is totally unacceptable. Had I been aware of the incident or indeed that I guest had requested I speak to him, I would have done so without question. I regret that being... More

Three of us stayed at this hotel in March 2012. We had rooms on the ground floor just off the courtyard. The rooms were spacious with a lovely large comfy bed and decent sized bathroom, with a large walk in (fixed head) shower. Due to the age of the building it has a lot of character, e.g. there were exposed... More

We had our mother's 80th birthday party at The Bear a few Satudays ago. There were only about 25 of us but The Bear, especially Sara who coordinated the event, could not have been more helpful. We had a delicious meal followed by a disco and it was all excellent. The staff were helpful, fun and generally fab all round.... More

Stayed in this hotel of September 2011. Offers a nice small hotel stay. It centrally located and just far enough from the high street to not hear all the hustle and bustle early in the morning. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Comfortable beds. Lovely courtyard area for a drink and a friendly hotel cat. There was a wedding... More

I was keen to take my sales team away from some of the big "chain" hotels that we normally do our Busines sessions in.....The Bear fitted the bill perfectly, the business room, the food, the servivce, the personal touch has given my team a real nice treat before the end of the year. ......Would I go back......Too right!!! Thank you... More

Went to The Bear for lunch on a Thursday with two friends. It is thirty years since I was last here and I didn't recognise it! Completely different interior decor-wise and very much the better for it! I ate grilled baby squid and caramelised fennel salad with an orange and soya reduction. Lovely chunky pieces of flat squid - not... More

Good location, friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable bed, a real nice pub, not so bad. But,,, the internet is very bad, it constantly makes you re log in just to stay connected, and signal strength, at least in my room, was poor. Also, avoid my room #32 or any rooms facing the main road, the car noise will be well... More

Booked direct with hotel and was offered Internet rates. Hotel easy to find, free parking immediately adjacent. Receptionist efficient but no personality so no welcome. Passing assistant manager offered to carry bags to room. Room overlooking courtyard, quiet, well furnished and clean but despite knowing we were coming the heating had not been turned on, the room took a full half... More

I do wish guests would at least let us know if things were not to their liking or wrong whilst staying with us, so we have an opportunity to correct them and thus improve their stay. My over riding aim is to have happy guests that want to return. We try so hard to get things right, but at times... More
