Just off the Tuesday Market, this striking old building is very convenient to explore the older part of Lynn. Although it has no dedicated parking, the hotel is opposite a public car park where overnight (1800-0800) costs just £1. My room was adequate and clean though down a rather dingy corridor. For my two night stay, I was greeted in the same way as abrownomch (see their review) and the first impression was of a perfunctory and lackadaisical business - really not trying very hard. I decided not to eat there in the evening but see what breakfast was like. This proved ok but rather ordinary and not sufficient to tempt one to other meals. The breakfast staff were a bit brusque but friendly enough. I used this hotel as a base for work and most other guests seemed to be there for similar reasons. I would rate this hotel as adequate as a less expensive place if one is working in the area, but of not enough quality for those on holiday or wanting to relax in some comfort.…

I stayed here while working locally for a week. On arrival I was greeted by a man who was watching TV in a room next to the hole in the wall they called reception. As no one at the "desk" I rang the bell & he said "what do you want" very rudely without introducing himself. After eventually ascertaining he was the owner a key was thrust at me & I was told directions to my room with no courtesy whatsoever. I went to my room up several stairways & twists & turns which smelled damp & worn out carpets & decor from the 1970's. My room, including the very old bed was from the same era. Items were broken & cobwebs abounded. It was noisy, windows let in the wind & the carpet threadbare. The bed creaking all night did nothing to help. There is no wifi or any of the niceties usual today, even needed binoculars to see the TV. Each evening the owner was sat in the "lounge" watching a massive TV but he was so rude I could not sit in there & I'm sure the suggestion of watching anything other than his choice would be met with a no. The only saving grace was at breakfast, this was cooked fresh to order by a young woman who could be described as loud and brash but at least she was friendly, efficient & a decent cook. I'm sad to see this grand old building has been left to decay and its poor conversion into a hotel has done it no favours. It is totally unsuitable for anyone with the slightest mobility issues & no efforts have been made for them. …

The hotel is a little tired if I'm honest, the bed was ok not that bad, the en- suite was small and very basic.the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was good with a verity of choices, no complaints with the food. The hotel is in a good position in kings lynn very central to the shops and pubs and local history

Popped in for drinks with friends when it was our turn to order and pay asked to pay by card when got very rude comment from the Owner who thought we couldn't hear him ,saying how midlanders never have cash so we left the drinks and walked out. Best take your business elsewhere in my opinion if you want half decent service.

This is the worst hotel ever in my experience. It is appalling. It stinks. I appreciate it is very old, but the stench isn't old, it's unclean, very very unclean. From the entrance, up the stairs (the smell is worse here) and in the room, it smells awful. Room not hoovered, black gunk around shower tray, filthy Lino in shower room, dirty windows and it appeared to never have been decorated/upgraded since the 1970's. Someone else's clothes were in the cupboard!!! Couldn't bring ourselves to eat breakfast so can't comment on that. Bed was very uncomfortable, room was hot with no fan or air-con. Just give this place a wide berth.....it's literally the pits.

On the north edge of the town centre, only minutes walk to the main square. Basic but all the usual features, TV, kettle with coffee, tea biscuits, en- suite a liitle cramped but functional. Bed was ok and breakfast was as good as anywhere. The parking situation is solved with a municipal car park directly opposite arrive after 6:00 pm and it is £1 until 8:00am following morning. It is expensive during the day £1.60p per hour so if you are not leaving until 9:00 am you can pay £2.60p the night before. The bar is very limited for range of beer but otherwise seemed cosy. A key coded door is available after 10.00pm.

I called in with an American friend who is expecting three members of her family to visit in a couple of months. We were "greeted" by an elderly Mr. Grumpy who appeared to think we were something scraped off his shoe. I asked if I could show my friend around - we had gone in through the hotel/restaurant entrance - but I didn't mention that we had thought of booking rooms. He looked us up and down and said yes, but don't go anywhere guests would go. We glanced through the door at the guests' sitting room - completely empty and vile. Massive tv screen blocking the fireplace. We were able to walk through a small room to a bar - smelled awful. Never again, and certainly never to stay. Perhaps Mr.Grumpy was having a bad day, but that's not really an excuse for treating prospective customers (or anybody else) like this.…

Staff could do more to be welcoming. Bed was terrible. Full breakfast good. No information about the hotel in the room. Strange shower. Bad carpeting. Charming exterior and interior, real genuine british historic feel in the dining room.

I stayed at the Tudor Rose at the weekend and was greeted by a young man who greeted me with a speech he must have given many times before and who did not look me in the eye once. The room, although very cheap, was in the 1970s part of the building and looked it. The décor in the bedroom was from the 1990s and the bathroom must have been the original décor. The bed was uncomfortable and must have been cheap when bought and there was a strange smell in the room which I think came from a cupboard that sufficed as a wardrobe. The central heating worked once I turned it on which was good as it was a cold night. The kettle did not work so no tea or coffee (although it was provided and biscuits). I ate dinner elsewhere and returned to watch the rather small television in my room. There was no information about the hotel in my room or elsewhere that I could see which was disappointing as I would have liked to have learned about it's history. I did not go down to bar in the evening but I learned from one of the other guests the next day that it had not been open. I think this was an opportunity missed as there were several other residents staying at the hotel that night. Next morning the breakfast was served in an upstairs room off the bar area. The young woman serving it was cheerful enough and the full breakfast was adequate although the coffee could have been warmer. It is a pity that the full potential of this hotel is not being exploited. With refurbishment and someone taking an interest in the place it would be a lot more welcoming than it is at present.…
