It was a special birthday so we decided to stay a few nights with our Yorkie. With this in mind, we stayed in a room which was dog friendly and whilst this was pleasant some upgrading still needed to be finished on the room eg the en-suite in particular, the shower drenched the floor no matter how careful we were.... We stayed here for a friend's wedding nearby; I would certainly recommend this hotel. The location and grounds are lovely - there was a wedding going on here at the time - and the staff are helpful and pleasant. The bar is nice though we did not eat in the restaurant. Breakfast was good though not all the items listed... More

This hotel offers very reasonable value for money, our room was clean albeit that it took 20 minutes for the hot water to arrive! Staff are pleasant and engaging but beware the reputation of the restaurant when the main chef is "day off". Breakfast is a delight, with local produce and served hot and fresh to you. More

We attended my niece’s wedding; I hadn’t heard the best of things about the hotel , but as my wife’s family were treating us we had decided book in. After a long journey, our first impressions were good; lovely grounds and the outside of hotel looks tidy and well maintained. The main reception isn’t as nice; after finishing her mobile... More

As the new owners of the hotel we appreciate the feedback you've taken the trouble to provide and have taken on board the positive, but more importantly the negative comments. I am personally looking into why you weren't greeted in a professional manner and am speaking to the team about this review, so we can further improve, which is important... More

I stumbled across this hotel completely by accident and I'm so glad I did. It's in the middle of an extensive (but unobtrusive) refurbishment and we were lucky enough to have one of the newly refurbished rooms. All mellow browns and greens - wonderful! Actually got a good night's sleep in the lovely comfy bed, too, which is always a... More

What a great base to operate from when visiting Dartmoor and the surrounding area. We had the weekend break as a gift from our daughters via buyagift.com. And what a great gift it was, the perfect centre for exploration of places we had never been to before. We also visited Plymouth and the National Aquarium whilst down there. The hotel... More

Totally great location right on the edge of the Moor with sheep and ponies roaming through the grounds of the hotel. Rooms pleasant and clean, with terrific views. Food all good. The staff are polite and helpful without being overly stuffy/formal. If I was looking for something to complain about (as many of the Tripadvisor whingers seem to do) the... More

Great position on the edge of Dartmoor with ponies grazing close by. Fifteen minutes from Plymouth and about the same to Tavistock. Hotel warrants being a lot more upmarket than it is. Some bedrooms have been upgraded but most are still stuck in the 1970s. The banqueting room has been greatly improved. Staff are pleasant and helpful but very amateur.... More

I have stayed at this hotel on 5 occassions (last in Sept 2011) as I have family at the university and following a long drive from London I would not keep returning if it did not meet my standards. The bad points!. Yes the decor is a bit dated and the issues on reception are not to a large corporate... More

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and also for staying with us on numerous occasions. Since your stay in September and as part of the refurbishment programme, the car park has been re-tarmacked, so the pot holes have gone. Glad you like the food, the new head chef comes with a great reputation locally. More
