Unfortunately the previous occupants of the room we had booked had managed to flood the room so I got a call form Dan to inform me that the hotel wouldn't be able to accommodate us. However, Dan found us alternative accommodation at short notice and we... More

We recently stayed at The Royal Lion for a long weekend. It was recommended to us as our original choice was fully booked and what a stroke of luck. It is located in the centre of Lyme Regis and is within walking distance of the centre of the town and the Cob and the Mary Anning museum. It is an... More

We were in Lyme for a family wedding and having stayed in the hotel before we were only too happy to return to an old coaching inn of character in a superb location. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food at both breakfast and dinner was uniformly excellent with a wide choice. We had a standard patio room which... More

Only spent one night there, but couldn't fault the staff or hotel. We had a room with a sea view right at the back of the hotel, just above the restaurant. Food good. Full English even came with Black Pudding!

We were nicely welcomed upon our arrival and were helped with our luggage as there is no lift. The 'Traditional' twin bedded room was pleasant with a large & very clean bathroom. The hotel is centrally located near the Esplanade and amenities. We had a lovely full English breakfast with pleasant and efficient service.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
At the heart of the idyllic town of Lyme Regis, 'the Pearl of Dorset', is the Royal Lion Hotel, a stunning haven located in the middle of the High Street, with its own private car park. Lyme Regis is a picturesque town on the West Dorset border, part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, it is renowned for its fascinating past, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the unique fossils found in the cliffs and beaches, and for being the central location of the novel and the 1981 film, 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. Situated less than 100 metres from the sea, the Royal Lion Hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the locale. Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, the Hotel has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of its history and unique charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and open fires help to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, with new additions of its own swimming pool and other facilities. Wi-Fi, although not available in the bedrooms, is available to guests in several areas of the hotel. Privately owned and managed, the Royal Lion Hotel has gained an enviable reputation for its friendly service, world class food and wine and leisure offerings. ... more   less
