This was the fourth time that I'd stayed at The Compasses during the past 14 months and each time has been special. It's a great centre for walking with comfortable rooms, good food, well kept beer and very friendly staff. On this occasion we descended on the pub as a group of 12 family and friends for a birthday weekend,... More

We stayed at the Compasses in Plum Cottage for 3 nights and even the rain could not spoil our break. The cottage is cosy & very comfortable,we had it on a B&B basis and also had our evening meals in the pub. The food was excellent. my husbands favorite was the pork dish, but I'm a veggie and there was only... More

First visit here to meet a friend who knew I would love this old village pub, its food and its beer. The atmosphere on arrival was friendly and cosy with a good mix of diners at tables and locals at the bar. The meal was excellent, imaginative and beautifully cooked. It was also very filling so a return visit is... More

Our four-night stay at the Compasses Inn was the result of a personal recommendation and we were not disappointed. Staying in the pubs adjacent Plumb Cottage we found it comfortable and cosy. It also boasts a log burner and I might add that the logs are provided free. Three evenings we ate in the pub and the food was delicious.... More

There's nothing about visiting a pub or restaurant that saddens me more than sitting down to look at a menu and struggling to choose something you really want. Doesn't happen at The Compasses. Our hard-to-please table of 8 were all spoilt for choice and in good foodie fashion all chose something different to enable a team tasting. The moules I... More

Me and my Mum stayed here for a week in Plum Cottage. It was everything we could have wanted from a stay in the Great British countryside. The cottage has all home comforts and although right next to the Inn we were not disturbed at any time by noise etc. We ate at the Inn on a couple of occasions... More

I really don't think the people who wrote the last review were eating in the same pub! The menu in this place is very reasonable for this area of the country. We live in Dorset and the food here is very good value, tasty and portion sizes were spot on. A varied selection of meat and fish, locally sourced rack... More

I had heard so much about how good this place was that despite an hour drive to get there I was really looking forward to a nice dining experience. The intitial impression was good, a quaint English pub with a roaring log fire on a cold April evening. The furnishing could have been more comfortable and the spacing between tables... More

I've been lucky enough to stay at The Compasses quite a few times now. It must be the friendliest place to stay. Very good food. It is unbelievable how busy it can be when the sun comes out. This time I was in the room at the back, a lovely room, freshly decorated. Yes, there was a slight hum from... More

Having stayed at The Compasses Inn, several times we have never failed to be impressed. Once again, over the Easter weekend, we enjoyed great food in good surroundings with a fantastic atmosphere and quality customer service. Thanks. More
