We had our lovely friends, Ann and Graeme, staying with us on Harris and they suggested we go to Scarista House for dinner on one of the nights. We've been before - so the bar was already set very high. Nonetheless, our experience was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we crossed the threashold and were welcomed, we felt cosseted and... Situated on the west cost of South Harriis Scarista House is just a wonderful place. The view over the sea is amazing. We were welcomed with aftenoon tea even though we arrived short after lunch. Tea, scones, cake and all the rest served in the library. Just lovely! The room was fine, just what you could expect in such an... More

I was very surprised to read the recent review of Glebe cottage at Scarista. Firstly, I'd like to say. It is a holiday cottage and as such is exceedingly good. It is the kind of place that you don't worry about carrying sand in on your feet from the beach and making yourself at home. There was a lot of... More

This was the most expensive accommodation we have ever stayed in and we have never been so disappointed. The cottage stands directly behind the hotel and so the sea views are largely blocked by the house. The sitting area in the cottage is so small, it doesn't even sit the seven people the cottage is supposed to accommodate. The settees... More

We have had four nights at Scarista. When we booked we wondered whether that would be too long, but now wish we could stay longer! The hotel is a perfect balance of service and comfort, and makes you feel like you are staying in a private home. The rooms are well equipped and cosy, and the food is simple and... More

Lovely building, lovely food, decent service. We didn't stay in Scarista - just had a meal there. We popped in early afternoon to reserve a table and were presented with the set menu which sounded lovely but admittedly not cheap - £43 for 3 courses I think. The menu was perfectly suited to my taste but I could imagine it... More

Yes, Scarista House is indeed a wonderful place. Set in a superb location, the hotel is unique in its outlook and delightful atmosphere. We were extremely well looked after, the food was excellent and copious (though not cheap), with superb breakfasts, generous afternoon tea included (a delightful unadvertised surprise!)and top notch cooking at dinner. We were stunned by the scenery... More

25 years ago I visited a small inn which had been a Manse in a previous life on the Island of Harris. I had read about it in an article, and as I had never visited Scotland, and had a few days in April while my husband had a business commitment.I went alone - by train, bus and ferry arriving... More

We have been visting Scarista House for about 15 years. This year again we stayed for a week. We love the lack of choice on the dinner menus - no bickering over - oh I wish I had ordered that! If you ask in advance any food you dislike or cannot eat will be replaced with something appropriate. We feel... More

We spent two nights in this lovely welcoming hotel. The setting is stunning on a glorious white sand beach and our room in the house was very comfortable. It was very friendly and all the staff were helpful and keen to give suggestions for places to go on our first trip to Harris. The food was good though not exceptional... More
