The Gangtey Palace turns out to have once been a real palace. Built by a 19th century ruler, it has charm, beauty, and history. It also has some squeaky floor boards and thin walls, but those defects are easily overlooked. The main two story building surrounds a colorful inner courtyard and a three story tower building. The tower walls are... More

This is a collection of buildings, most of which are more than 100 years old, that typify Bhutan's iconic architecture. The complex has been very sensitively restored, resulting in a charming courtyard, attractive, comfortable bedrooms, spectacular views of local rice and potato paddys with Paro and snow-capped mountains beyond. Antique Bhutanese items are everywhere, adding a layer of cultural interest.... More

We were initially booked at the new building, but upon learning that the old building (built over 100 years ago) was free, we immediately asked to be transferred there (upgrade costs us just about 20USD - not bad hey?). Room 301 was the piece de resistance with sweeping views of Paro Valley, the mountains and the room was though dated... More

The hotel has a wonderful-authentic feel. It provides the sense of living in a place full of history. We stayed in one of the large rooms in the original structure which I strongly recommend in preference to the standard rooms. The food is unremarkable. More

This is the most authentic and wonderfully restored culturally sensitive hotel I have stayed in. It typifes the eloborate decorations of Bhutanese architecture and art, combined with excellent service and the hospitality of it's gentle people. Just a wonderful experience and a great base to climb Taktsang Monastry (Tiger's Nest). Don't forget after your climb to soak in their outside... More

The hotel is beautiful, gracious, elegant, relaxed, atmospheric, friendly, and well-equipped. Get out your dictionary to list all the high points and then match them up with Bhutan. More

Gangtey Palace is a 100 year old building on a hill overlooking Paro town, with very good views of the dzong. Rooms: beautifully appointed with antique furniture and a large bathroom. Electric heater and extra blankets. Food: the usual Bhutanese buffet for tourists, but nice Extras: complementary wifi A good choice for Paro. More

The kindest staff work at the Gangtey Palace. We had a lovely two night stay in one of the coziest rooms ever. Our room was warmed by old rugs, hot water bottles for our bed and was very comfy. Meals were all good and the staff bent over backwards to please you at every turn. The hotel overlooks the Paro... More

This is a very nice and atmospheric place to stay in Paro. The hotel is perched high above the town with commanding views of the Dzong and the valley below. Rooms are large and traditional with much colour and squeaky floorboards, so don't expect an anodyne international standard. Food and service (including hot water bottles in winter) were both very... We were booked into Gangtey Palace with our terrific tour company - Lhomen Tours. Fell in love with it! The architecture is fabulous - especially as it was our introduction to Bhutan. The staff are very nice - the rooms are great - up a small staircase to our huge room overlooking the valley. Spotlessly clean, hot hot water -... More
