We have been here before and always return when we visit Carmel. Great ambience and service. The gardens are lovely with a charming waterfall. Huge tree in middle of courtyard is lit with tiny lights at night. Breakfast is brought to your room and is luscious! Walking distance to everything including the dog-friendly beach. Our room, #11, was outstanding in... More

We stayed here for one night with our girls aged 8 and 10. We booked a couple of hours before we arrived. We were due to arrive in Monterey the next day from a stay in Yosemite, but the dire lack of edible food in Yosemite drove us out a day early. The staff were very friendly and booked a... More

Having just returned from a roadtrip which started in The Argonaut, Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco ending in the Bellagio, Las Vegas, we can honestly say this was our favourite place we stayed. Randall and Stephanie were extremely helpful, informative and overall so hospitable it was a real delight. I had read the reviews and seen the wonderful feedback the team... More

It took me forever to decide on a hotel in Carmel... I'm really glad I decided to stay here. It was perfect. We were able to walk everywhere, the breakfast was great everyday, and the hotel manager was able to give us excellent recommendations on restaurants and site seeing in the area. I would definitely stay here again! More

We had such a lovely stay here. Reception was great, very helpful in finding us " eat inside dog friendly restaurants" (there are a few), helped us with our lame dog, welcome dog beds and placemats, dog treats with our coffee in the morning, wonderful room with a fireplace and kitchen...they even found us a wonderful dog-sitter on short notice.... A very rather historical and quaint lodging. It is a little need of TLC , as the furnishings are kinda tired looking. The draw is cottage almost hobbit-like, 1940's garden and court yard are absolutely stunning. My own parents came here in the 60's, and except for the television, King bed and retiled bathroom, pretty much as they had enjoyed.Not... More

We loved the breakfast. Wine and cheese reception is really minimalist. I expected reception area to be large enough for us to meet other guests and 'hang out' it was very cramped and with a mom and child on the only couch in front of the fire there really wasn't anywhere to be. Staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful. The... More

We had a fantastic time here, so much so we booked a third night. The setting is beautiful, and the room was spacious and stylish (book room 11 if you can - private with lovely views). What really made the difference though, was the warm welcome and help offered to us by Randal and Thomas during our stay. This trip... More

We only stayed one night on our coastal roadtrip and when we arrived we immediately wished we'd booked to stay longer! The inn is beautiful and we were very pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a room with a kitchen and fireplace as it was a cold night in Carmel. We'd planned to go out for dinner but were enjoying... More

This place is wonderful. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The Vagabond is tucked in a beautiful location surrounded by stunning trees. The reception area is very cosy with a fireplace and wine and cheese. The room was large, light, and airy and had a lovely bathroom with bathrobes. Very pleasant surprise when they brought breakfast to our room... More
