"Chris" is the camp host we dealt with, and he was efficient and responsive. Things to know: no late check-in; CASH only; the bathroom is sparkling and has wonderful liquid hand soap; quarters needed for showers (one per min, max. ten mins and the water was hot when I used it ); the river is across a dangerous highway so... Stayed here few weeks back and campgrounds are big, with good spacing between them all dotted in ancient redwoods. Showers are super nice. The couple that run this place are so laid back and super helpful with tips and recommendations regarding the local area. Right by the lake as well and the owner has created a wicked little walkway down... More

My boyfriend and I were going to stay in the nearby state park but due to california's lack of funds camping is no longer available. We stumbled on schoolhouse canyon and were so pleased we stayed an extra night. The bathrooms were super clean, the camp spots were clean as well as beautiful and the camp host was friendly and... Campsites are beautiful - tree-lined and shady with camping amenities such as potable water and SUPER clean bathrooms, hot showers and firewood for sale onsite. The location is great - near the river, near wineries and the local watering holes. Pooches are also welcome. The staff is also fantastic - Chris is full of smiles and will go out of... More

We stayed on busy Friday and Saturday night. The staff is very nice, say hello to the dog, also very nice. The wood bundles are a pretty good deal, worth buying it there and not from Safeway or something. They have a nice area across the highway that is on the river...but be careful crossing. Overall it's a pretty nice... More

My friend and I stayed at this campground for one night, we would have stayed more if they had any campsites open for the night. I appreciate the "adult" section toward the back of the campground. It's nice to be able to sit out and talk without worrying about little kids. The owners are fantastic and we had a great... More

When you're camping, you're not going to sleep well. The campground is situated in a narrow canyon and noise travels. There are several group camp sites where 4 or 5 tents/cars were situated. Despite what the website says, "If you want to party" this IS the place to go. Large groups talking in loud voices or singing with guitar at... More

I selected Schoolhouse Canyon Campground based on no particular reason. My three kids (all under 9) and I spent three nights and four days midweek. The campground itself was great! If you are in the lower numbered campsites (I was in #6), then you are closer to the highway, but that is no big deal. Just don't expect quiet like... More

We were looking for our first camping experience in the Russian River area in over 20 years and were very glad we chose Schoolhouse Canyon. Initially we looked at Casini Ranch but after reading all the horrid reviews all over the web on them, we felt that Schoolhouse Canyon would better suite our tastes. The camp sites were perfect and... More
