We spent three days in this old hotel that has been retrofitted with some newer appliances. The rooms were quite nice but the sea view is only possible from the top floor due to the big trees. However, I like trees so that isn't a negative thing for me. The television was undersized unless they were trying to keep the... More

Our first time to Independance Hotel is very enjoyable. There are many ways to enjoy this hotel: beautiful private beach with soft white sand (little wawes, great warm water in mid-April), great swimming pool with separate section for little kids, spa, gym, long scenic walk by the sea, magnificient big trees surround the hotel and bungalows, excellent buffet at breakfast.... The private beach is superb - clean, beautiful white sand, warm sea, almost empty, secure and hassle-free. For this and the sunsets, I would love to stay at the Independence again. We were on the 5th floor of the main building - this gives a sea view and convenience for the hotel amenities, and is worth paying a little extra... More

This hotel trades on the fact that it was the 1st large one in Cambodia, and that Jacqueline Kennedy stayed there in 1967. They deliberately keep things quiet which makes the beach atmosphere superb if you like it that way which we do. If you want jet skis et al, go elsewhere. The beach is stunning, with the softest, whitest... More

We had a month at the Independence over Christmas and new year. This was our second visit and we'll be booking 2012/13 when we get back from our current trip to Florida. Sihanoukville has maybe five or ten years before it goes the way of Karon and Kata beaches in Phuket. That is to say, wall to wall Marriott, Hilton,... More

The for the last leg of our Asia vacation, my wife and I picked Sihanoukville mostly because we wanted some time for beach and sun. We were debating between Sokha and Independence and choose the later because of some pretty unfavorable things we heard about Sokha. The Independence Hotel did not disappoint. Things weren't perfect, hence the 4 instead of... More

I stayed with family over Christmas last year. Nice clean rooms with great view. We were very much looking forward for the Gala Dinner on Christmas Eve, the show was kind of too long and the dinner was average, so bit disappointing. The daily B'fast was good. The staff were nice and friendly. My kids loved the little pay area... More

Superb location; private, clean beach; stunning architecture; beautiful grounds; friendly staff. But we had problems with our room (in one of the chalets) which included a non-closing balcony door, broken chair, missing shower curtain, flooding shower, rat droppings on the balcony which didn't get cleaned up .... we spoke to the duty manageress who offered to change our room to... We stayed in a deluxe sea view room in one of the new buildings. This room was at the end of the block and had an outside shower as a plus - much cooler than using the indoor one. Pros: Comfortable room, very well equipped, balcony with lovely views. We paid USD50 for BB double in the off season. Delectable... More

We stayed here for several nights and really enjoyed ourselves. We were a family of four and so we got two rooms because the rooms were smaller and my kids are 12 and 13 years of age. The hotel was very quiet and the beach was serine. There was someone cleaning the beach each time we spent time there. It... More
