We actually stayed here because we got a deal on Hotel Tonight. When we checked in Rebecca was so nice and put us in a junior suite with an ocean view. The place had the feel of having been kept up since it opened in 1913 and not that it had been redecorated to look vintage. It was an amazing... More

Dear Anita - I am so happy to read that you stayed with us as a result of finding the hotel on Hotel Tonight. We are fairly new to their platform and have found it to be a great resource for selling rooms at the last minute. I'm really glad you took advantage of our offer. And thanks for your... More

We stayed here the last two nights of our trip after driving down the California coast. We stayed in a Garden Suite apartment style room which was perfect. The room is not located in the hotel and is actually around the side. At first, we were a little confused and worried that we were put in some 'crappy' rooms. ;)... More

Dear Kfaith82 - Delighted to read your comments about your trip to La Jolla. So glad you had the opportunity to experience firsthand our Garden Suites. That separate wing of the hotel, housing 10 suites, has only been open for about 5 years but has been so well received by those looking for more space, privacy and, of course, the... More

We took a quick trip away from home and stumbled on this gem at the beach. The hotel was quaint and the location perfect to shopping and a lovely beach stroll. The accommodations were lovely and the bathroom roomy but still had plenty of charm. We had a village view and liked it since the ocean view rooms overlooked the... More

Dear Polobear99 - Thanks for "stumbling" upon us during your recent trip down from Redlands. I'm so glad to hear you had such a nice visit. I hope your trip was during the 80-90 degree weather we have been experiencing. La Jolla is most beautiful when warm and sunny! Thanks again and please come back and visit again soon. Terry... More

I had to go to La Jolla for business one night and decided to try The Grande Colonial on Prospect in La Jolla Village. I usually stay at the La Valencia up the street but I had heard good things about the The Grande Colonial from friends so I gave it a shot. This hotel is located in the heart... More

Thanks, RowerPower, for taking the time to post your feedback about your recent visit to the Grande Colonial. With each renovation, we go to great lengths to enhance the feel of the hotels’ still intact turn-of-the-century architecture while blending it with refined, contemporary sophistication. I appreciate your recognition of that. With respect to the swimming pool, we like to think... More

We arrived Thursday May 2nd to a warm welcome at the Grand Colonial La Jolla. We had a room with two double beds and the rooms was nice, well kept, and most importantly had good beds/mattresses. The valet service was great for our comings and goings and we highly recommend this hotel for this area.

Dear JeffL. I am delighted to hear your positive comments about your visit to the Grande Colonial last weekend. Coming all the way from Calgary, Canada, I hope your visit was more than memorable. I also hope you arrived early enough on Thursday to enjoy the 85 degree weather we experienced...although it was even nicer on Friday reaching 91 degrees!... More

From start to finish, the staff were amazingly helpful. Our room was in the Garden building, on the first floor. There was a walkway on either side of the suite and we felt very overlooked. The suite was clean and nicely appointed. Unfortunately you could hear every footstep from the upstairs suite. It had no view to speak of. The... More

We stayed in April at the Little Hotel by the Sea - a part of the Grande Colonial hotel. We had a gorgeous second floor suite - which was perfect for two adults and one child. Excellent location - downtown La Jolla. I stayed the first time at the Grande Colonial. The hotel looks great but the rooms are old and the carpet is grubby. Make sure that you don't get a room which face the village. Those rooms are quite noisy. For sure, there are better options in La Jolla for the same price. 3... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Situated in the seaside Village of La Jolla, just 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego, the Four Diamond Grande Colonial offers classic European styling in the intimate setting of a boutique hotel.2013 is an especially exciting year for us as we celebrate our Centennial as the oldest original hotel in La Jolla. Those who visit and first pass under the Georgian arches and lead glass windows immediately have a sense that they’ve entered a place with a magical and storied past. For the past century, the Grande Colonial has been one of the most esteemed hotels in San Diego. But beyond the turn of the century architecture, our true hallmark is our warm, friendly staff and gracious service. We take pride in preserving the heritage laid down by our founders 100 years ago by providing the finest experience in first class accommodations. And just as those founders envisioned in 1913, the Grande Colonial remains today a classic hotel that rivals anything in the West.Commanding views of the California coastline, the Grande Colonial overlooks the shores of the Pacific Ocean and is ideally located just steps away from miles of beautiful beaches renowned to Southern California. Within walking distance are world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment and within a short drive are an abundance of golf, recreation and visitor attractions. The hotel features 93 air-conditioned, non-smoking guest rooms and suites (some with fully-equipped kitchens and fireplaces). Complimentary wired and wireless high-speed Internet access is also available in each of the guest rooms and suites and throughout all public spaces.Over 5,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor, ocean-view meeting and special event space beckons those groups seeking the intimacy and personalized service of a boutique property – all against a backdrop of La Jolla’s ocean vistas.A heated outdoor pool, valet parking, complimentary bottled water, bathrobes and evening turndown service are just a few of the luxuries guests will enjoy.On-site is the acclaimed NINE-TEN Restaurant, offering the perfect combination of sophistication and casual elegance. Led by Chef Jason Knibb (a 2011 Iron Chef challenger), the restaurant’s Evolving California Cuisine features the best of the harvest from local artisan farmers where produce is selected daily. Recognized by ZAGAT as “exceptional to extraordinary”, NINE-TEN is also a winner of the 2012 Best Hotel Restaurant in San Diego award and boasts a Wine Spectator-awarded wine list. Breakfast and lunch are served daily and dinner is served nightly. With its ideal location, gracious service and environment of extraordinary comfort, the Grande Colonial hotel provides the ideal destination for travelers to La Jolla. ... more   less
