We've been going to west lake, Tahoe city, Homewood for 20 years now and every year it seems to get more ridiculous. Everything is getting expensive and all the "old tahoe" places are getting ripped down and replaced with gaudy over the top mansions. This weekend, we stumbled upon the Rainbow Lodge and what a breath of fresh air it... More

Recently stayed at Rainbow Lodge with my parents for a quick ski trip. My mom found a great deal for this place: one night stay was about $100 and included yummy breakfast and two trail passes to Royal Gorge cross country ski resort (We redeemed them and had a wonderful time). The hotel is a very old building, I think... More

My husband and I stopped for brunch. This place could be so charming with a little TLC. It has a lot of character but its hidden under neglect and dirt. The carpet in the dining room is filthy (back dining room). The decor is very dated and old and dirty. The only attempt at sprucing it up amounted to a... More

I expected the worst based upon other reviews & can happily say I loved my 2-day stay over Christmas. The hotel had a wonderful Christmasy atmosphere of old with a Christmas tree, roaring fires in the fireplaces, & the smell of mulled wine. Christmas dinner was delicious. Breakfasts were also good; we were always lucky & nabbed the table in... More

We stopped in at the Rainbow Lodge for a late lunch and were met by courteous staff and served an excellent meal. Apparently the lodge and Royal Gorge are currently owned by some bank while the property is being offered for sale, but this in no way detracted from a completely enjoyable experience. The lodge itself is solidly built of... More

The waitress blessed us with her presence, took the order and we waited, and waited. When meals were delivered, ouch! We all ordered burgers cooked differently, they were all the same, gray, dry, overcooked hockey pucks. We did get a dry, day old toasted bun and condiments, along with limp, greasy fries. All this for $13.95 each. We blame ourselves... More

We have been to The Rainbow Lodge several times over the years, (once for my 40th birthday), and have always enjoyed it. This time we rented the Family Suite since we had two teenagers with us. The room is so quaint and cute, it feels like you have travelled back in time. There are no ceiling fans, no window screens,... More

This is the first time I have ever wrote a negative review for a hotel, so I don't "complain" much. For 15 years this used to be one of our favorite places, but no more. When we got back to our room the 2nd night of our 2 night stay, which was New Years Eve, ( and needless to say... More

Our first ever snowshoe trip in the Royal Gorge was cancelled by REI due to bad weather with severe storm warning. The organizer suggested re-scheduling our trip but Rainbow Lodge refused to transfer our 2-night hotel reservation (which we had already paid in full and weren't even asked for a refund of the $400+!). In fact, when we called to... More

There was a good effort by some of the staff. However they were amateurish and unprepared for their jobs. Everything that could go wrong did. Hotel reservations were lost. Dinner was almost cancelled. It was sad as we have stayed there many times in the past. It is in decline and in dire need of new management from top to... More
