My husband and I have been wanting to stay here for decades, and have gotten to visit twice this year. Both times were exceptional, but in different ways. The first visit, we were fortunate enough to be there over the time Jim Messina was putting on a Singer-Songwriter workshop for a few lucky individuals. This culminated in a dinner show... More

This is definitely a family resort with more to do than you could possibly fit in the four days we spend here. Archery, fishing, air rifle range, shuffleboard, a great art room, ping-pong, horses, petting zoo (recently with three captivating baby bunnies), golf, tennis, spa (good but not great) acres to roam and for children to wander without fear, a... And I'm 15, so basically my entire life. Alisal is honestly my favorite place in the world. I wouldn't miss our annual trip there for anything. There is so much you can do, for all the people saying they got bored: you don't know how to have fun. And also you don't need a tv, it's teaching you to live... More

In travel, you win some, you lose some, and I lost at the Alisal Guest Ranch. Unless it's part of your family tradition or you maximize every cent (golfing, tennis, fishing, and riding) of an off-season package deal, I have no idea why someone would spend $400-$500 per night here. First, I'm disappointed in the Alisal for, in my opinion,... More

We spent 2 nights there in the winter, when the prices made our stay a real deal, because most of the activities were included free. The location is beyond heavenly! Why go to a dude ranch in Wyoming, when you have The Alisal in California? You will ride horses through herds of wandering cattle, past eagles' nests and a hidden... More

This was my 3rd time at the Alisal. The location is beautiful, nestled in the Santa Ynez mountains near Santa Barbara. Accommodations are nice, but not at all fancy. If you're expecting a 5-star resort, this place is not for you. Where they do excel is in their service. All staff I interacted with were very professional and friendly. Breakfast... More

Just got back from a trip to the Alisal Ranch. Whole family loved it. Kids can't wait to get back. Rides were great. Service was amazing- no request was too much. The staff really went above and beyond. We were there just before they were closing for a week. Food was fantastic first two nights and ok but definitely lesser... More

my wife and i just returned from our 3rd stay at alisal. playe golf at the resort course every day of our stay-for golfers, a very nice challenging course, easily walkable, in good shape; did not get tired of playing the course multiple times. went on two trail rides, scenic, nice. re the rooms; i've read other rooms that say... Alisal is a shameful profit center, pick-pocketing every guest who visits. Rates are now up to $540/night for a one bedroom studio (we stayed in August, 2011). Yes, they have good activities. But, each and every one is an additional cost, unless you want to string beads or finger paint in the rec room with the under 10 crowd. The... More

The Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort has a long history dating back 60 years of guests returning to the Ranch each year. We have never experience such negative feedback as the comments listed above. The Alisal Management acknowledges the Ranch does not appeal to everyone, but clearly we have found a niche that appeals to many. During the summer months... More

Each August we head for the Alisal, counting the days as we approach check-in time. My husband and I came with our six year old son for 3 days....our son now comes with his wife and six year old twins {since they were a year old}. We haven't missed a year...for 31 years. Families we met all those years ago,... More
