We spent and afternoon in this very walkable town. Early dinner at the Griswold was a nice way to end the day. The place has history and atmosphere. The staff is competent and friendly. The food was good. Yes good; nothing unique. I had nothing to complain about but also I had nothing to rave about.

We stayed at this charming Inn for a second time, and both times it was lovely...Very quaint and rustic, friendly people, good bar and very good food....Live music on Saturday night just added to the fun...Easy ride from NYC, I highly suggest The Griswald Inn, and Essex, it's charming home.

I bought a Living Social deal for the Gris and had April-June to use it. My boyfriend and I live in RI and we truly needed a getaway from our everyday. This town was just what the DR. Ordered!! The town is best visited during the summer months. It's right on the water and is untouched by doughboy or twisty... More

Stayed recently at the Griswold Inn for a weekend overnight. Friendly and efficient at the front desk during check in. Our room was in the Main Inn building. There are also rooms in adjacent buildings and over a couple of the stores on the main street (we have stayed at The Gris before). Our room was good sized for an... More

Stayed at Griswold Inn through a Living Social special. Inn is old & historic. Rooms clean and comfortable. No TV so if you are looking to catch a show or movie, they are not in rooms. You can see how old the inn is by the sloping floors. Employees very hospitable, bar cozy and delicious food in restaurant. Had the... More

Spent a Sunday night at the Griswold Inn for a quick getaway. Purchased a Living Social certificate for they stay and they were very accomodating when making the reservation. Arrived around 6pm and checked in quickly. The desk clerk was very pleasant, the ambiance was welcoming - fire going in the parlor, live music from the bar area - and... More

Beautiful place, friendly staff.......but, we were startled awake VERY early in the morn. by the cleaning crew, and one member of the staff felt it neccesary to do his morning "business" in the common bathroom of the house we were staying in. We E-mailed the managment and they didn't think we were important enough to respond back.....next time we will... More

We apologize for the events that negatively impacted your otherwise positive impressions. Typically our housekeeping staff is very sensitive to our overnight guests' schedule. Also, we have looked for your e-mail but have not been able to locate it. Perhaps it was inadvertently deleted. In any event, we are particularly unhappy that we were not able to respond immediately. We stayed at the Griswold Inn for one night and it was fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were exactly what we were hoping for - old fashioned and rustic. The food in the hotel restaurant was pricey but delicious as was their wine. One note for Essex though, don't go in winter/spring on a Mon

First, two negatives, one of which for some may well be positive: a bathroom door that was warped and therefore was difficult to close and then open without noise (think about doing it at 2 AM). The other was that there was no TV in the room (there is a TV for all guests in a separate room in another... More

We had business in Old Saybrook so I found The Griswold Inn and called direct. I spoke with the nicest women and she gave me a great rate and an upgrade for me since I booked 4 rooms. When we arrived Kim greeted us and gave us all upgrades! The rooms are decorated in a vintage/ antique look and the... More
