A sudden decision for a weekend trip led to a phone call where the owner agreed to wait for our late arrival to check us in. The hotel has quite a history and has survived hurricanes and encampment during the Civil War. The rooms vary in their accomodations and are decorated differently. It is located on the main street in... More

A block or so from the waterfront, this 1836 hotel has been kept in its 1950's state, to the delight of most of the guests, quite a number of whom are return visitors. The claw-foot bathtub was updated with a nice shower; the room was comfortable and the mattress good and firm. Puzzles and games are available in the spacious... More

No TV or phones..Nice change! Walk the block of quaint shops while enjoying great food & good drinks. All while being surrounded by the scents of the islands flowers. Hotel provides a tasty breakfast. Old original plank floors, walls, just updated enough for bathroom conveniences. Spacious rooms, shared sitting area, and fantastic wrap around two sided upper porch overlooking street... More

Cedar Key is not your average Florida resort town (it's a village of 700 people, on an island in the back of beyond) and the Island Hotel is certainly not your average hotel. It was built in 1859 and looks it, and various brochures help visitors wallow in the building's history as store, post office, tavern, restaurant, brothel, Civil War... More

underwhelmed by cedar key in general(can't get clams on the halfshell in the country's clam capital) h.otel itself is fine and meals were good but the room was clearly substandard.with worn furniture and haphazzard uneven flooring(had to go up a step to use the bathroom).would have stayed elsewhere had i viewed the place beforehand..nice management though. Came across this hotel by chance on our trip to Florida. Charming hotel on Main Street with a lot of history attached to it. The room and bathroom were small but clean and comfortable bed. No television but who needs that when you're on holiday. No tea or coffee maker but this was available downstairs in the morning to help... More

An old historic hotel that predates the Civil War, or the War of Northern Aggression if you will. The floor shows the history of hurricanes that have rocked the foundation. Not exactly level, however the ambiance and the rooms are all the traveler could ask for. The views are good, and the salt air off the Gulf is salubrious. A... More

If you like history and older buildings, and want to get away from it all, this is the place! The Island Hotel is a family run establishment that has a great little hotel, a very good restaurant, and also a nice little bar downstairs. They close the bar at 9:30pm so as not to disturb the Hotel Guests... which makes... More

We first stayed at the Island Hotel in 1996, and returned this year after may years of reminiscing about "..that trip to Cedar Key". Our return this year was just as fun, relaxing, and treasured. This is truly an historical hotel, reportedly haunted, with myriad stories and plenty of friendly locals to share them! The new owners since our prior... More

My husband and I spent three days at the Island Hotel and Restaurant in Cedar Key, Florida. We were there for one day and night for a reunion with two fraternity brothers who hadn't seen us in over fifty years. We all had a wonderful time. Island Hotel was built in 1859, and has withstood many different uses and many... More
