What kind of hotel doesn't accept credit cards? Well this one doesn't, I half jokingly asked about wifi, which there is none. This is all a shame because the Rod & Gun is a real treasure. This century old building is designed like a 19C English hunting lodge. With a bit of imagination and someone who smiled on reception this... More

I wish this place would get serious. They don't take credit cards, so I'm supposed to carry $400 or more in cash for a couple nights stay and meals on site? Helloooo! We are in the 21st century. Breakfast was as good as McDonalds, with slower service. Dinner was good quality; scallops were excellent, and reasonable at $22.95. Staff was... More

What a find. The hotel is beautiful. Sadly there are no rooms in the building( the upper floors have not been used since the 70's); the rooms are in cottages, which are clean and comfortable with private screened porches. The pool is beautiful with a waterfall and a real deep end of 8 foot. The food is nothing special but... More

The Rod and Gun is a very interesting place to visit. Lots of old world charm but could definitely benefit from some tlc. The bed was very rickety and uncomfortable. Bring your own toiletries because they only supply soap! We loved the private screened porch but would have appreciated a coffee maker in the room or in the lobby.

I'm rating the Rod and Gun based upon the whole experience ...which is better than the sum of it's parts. The Rod & Gun is a circa 1890, well maintained, hotel and restaurant in very rural and laid back Everglades City Florida. It has hosted many Presidents and celebrities ...and presents a rare opportunity to experience old Florida in untouched... More

I have stayed at the Rod and Gun Club on four occasions, and my experience has been consistent. The atmosphere is delightfully unpretentious, and the whole lodge evokes the feeling of old Florida. The furnishings are decidedly simple, and the staff are consistently friendly, accommodating, and helpful. If someone is going down to Everglades City to fish or explore the... More

This is one of my favorite restaurants. The building is a pre-Civil War gem with beautiful interiors. The outside looks over either a poll or a river with pelicans standing on piling w. the food is fresh and delicious. The staff is very friendly. Most of them are related to the old Florida families and have good stories to tell... More

Went with a group a group of friends to celebrate the beginning of 2013. The cottages were clean and the people were friendly. Basic accommodation with a old Florida charm. Not much to do but that is why you go to the middle of nowhere. For our group it was like camping with a private bath, bed and shower. The... More

My girlfeinds and I rented two of the cabins at the rod and gun club for a girls weekend. We had such a great time it was a pleasant experiance. The rooms were cosy and clean. The lobby and dinning room were beautiful and looked so nice with all the Christmas decoractions. We were greeted by a lovely young lady... More
