Although I did not have a chance to spot Bison or wild horses, and it rained the entire weekend, my stay here was wonderful. There is a lot of walking around and exploring to do. The campsites were great and the bathrooms were clean. I must return to this location so that I can explore much more.

I'm not a camper. I just travel a lot. It's a state park, so it has other things that state parks offer, and then some: birds and wildlife galore. They even have bison and wild horses. I stop here from time-to-time when driving either or north or south on I-75. Being just south of Gainesville, FL, it's the perfect place... More

Great bike riding, great trails, and overall good place to camp or visit. Campsite 28 is the best campsite thats closest to the road and showers. Plenty of space and room to set up camp. The vistor center is a good place to visit and the rangers had a snake slide show presentation that our kids liked.

This park has wild horses, buffalo and the biggest alligators i have ever seen. There are also wild boars. There are many nice hiking trails. The Paynes Town Seminole project is with in the park. The town of Micanopy, which is a quaint old town near by. The camp sites were nice and the deer walked right through our camp site.

Our first stay here was fall. It is one of the best Florida state parks we have stayed at. The restrooms are spotless. Rangers through several times a day. The campsites are spacious yet private. I highly recommend this state park.

and the wild horses. We have stayed in the campgrounds at least 3 times now. On two ocassions we took our bikes out on the trails in the Prairie. We went a mile or so and stopped as a herd of bisons were coming in front of us and passing over the trail. They were quite a ways away so... More

I also wanted to see the bison but just googled Paynes Prairie SP news and read that the state decided to eliminate all animals (bison, cattle, horses) except 8 female bison. Relocated means giving them to people who applied and I guess that means bison burger. Bummer. Where else can I see bison in a natural location in Florida?

We stayed in the Preserve's Campground in our motor home. Florida has a wonderful state park system and this was no exception - working electricity, water, level site, easy back-in. The road to the visitor center from the campground is peaceful and perfect for biking. Armadillos and squirrels are everywhere. At the end of the road is the beginning of... More

Paynes Prairie State Park is located just a few short miles off I-75, just south of Gainsville, FL. You will pass historic Micanopy, FL. on your way up SR234 to 441 to get to the park. We stayed on site 36, (pictured) which was a level and deep site towards the back of the camping area.... The drive into the... More
