Shaun and I hiked in, the howler monkeys were active in the trees. They are very loud and its is very exciting. They were trying to get the power back on when we were there, it may be available by now. But I have to say it really didn't matter that there wasn't power. It was so peaceful and beautiful....

David Teichmann moved to Punta Burica 7 years ago and began an impressive effort to establish the area as a wildlife sanctuary. Difficulties with ANAM led him to concentrate fully on saving endangered species of sea turtles. Dave has built a beautiful house, right on the Pacific Ocean, with guest accommodations located on the bottom floor. For only $55/night you can relax in these spacious rooms and if you so desire - accompany Dave on a night patrol of the beach, searching for green, hawksbill, and olive Ridley turtles building their nests and laying their eggs. Although it's illegal to sell turtle eggs in Panama, it is still widely done - and the eggs that Dave saves are placed in one of his three incubators that he has on his property. After 45 to 60 days, he releases the hatched turtles on the beach just in front of the incubator, where he makes sure they safely reach the water. In addition, Dave has a beautiful Margay that he keeps in caged area on his property. This cat was rescued from the pet trade, and has since flourished on Dave's property - so much, in fact, that she's called "Pansi Gorda" or Fat Tummy. If you have any interest in conservation or wildlife, Dave offers an extraordinary unique experience - to collect, bury, and release turtle eggs and hatchlings in a beautiful beach setting.
