I look forward to returning to this charming collection of cabins by the water in Maine. We sat out a hurricane this year and were snug and dry in the storm. Location is convenient for seeing the sights or relaxing on the porch and watching the bay. More

This is a favorite overnight stops on our travels from Boston to Bar Harbor. Recently stayed here in one of the cabins in October. It is located just outside the town of Belfast which has some nice shops, restaurants, and waterfront; however, there is a great little restaurant within walking distance beside the motel unit. The cabins range from rustic... More

We spent a night in one of the cabins and loved it, seriously regretted that we had not booked for several nights. While we were a little sceptical beforehand (would it be comfortable in the cabin in October when nights get colder? would the property be well maintained - we drove by some rather run-down cottage motels during our trip),... We recently stayed at the Colonial Gables Ocean Village and overall were satisfied with our stay. They have both motel rooms and cottages--we stayed in the motel. This is definitely an older property (probably 30 to 40 years old) but is maintained very well. The grounds are well kept and the view of the water is very nice. No breakfast... More

We stayed in cabin 33, recently renovated and found it to be extremely clean, very well appointed, with quality furnishings. The facilities were more than adequate for a very comfortable stay and the siting of no.33 could not have been much better, as we had superb views of Penobscot Bay, both from the porch and inside at least two rooms.... We stayed in an Ocean Front Cottage. The view from the bedroom, when we woke up at sunrise, was breathtaking. In the early morning, we spend almost 2hrs alone on the rocky beach with our 1 year old - it was lovely. The check in/check out was a lesson in patience as they are not on a computer system. The... Let's start with the positives: the cabins are great, updated and very clean; location is pretty nice as it is on the water with great views; hairdryers in room along with mini kitchen set up; staff/owner is very sweet; and this is probably the best bargain in town given the cleanliness. We had a cabin which was very good, but... More

We stayed in cabin 16 and another centrally located cabin and had a restful and wonderful time. The views of the bay were beautiful, it is kid and dog friendly, and the location is easy to access. The gardens at the entrance to Colonial Gables are also worth the effort to stroll. We are looking forward to going back Discovery... More

My husband's family stayed here many summers ago each year for family vacation. While we were in the area decided to stop by and check out the place first hand. Various cottages spread out across the hillside overlooking the bay. Some have been renovated, some have not. Cabin #49 for example, is in it's original condition, I'd say definitely 50's... More
