We enjoyed our stay in the Elizabeth Barret Browning Jr. Suite, with the fireplace. Using the fan (supplied) & pulling the drapes blocked out the street noise. Great location for walking in historic/wharf area of Portland. Good restaurants nearby.

Great location in the city with an attached parking lot. Our room was very comfortable and easily accessible via the separate entrance on the side of the house. We had our own little patio. You can find complimentary soft drinks in the room fridge. We were warned upfront that there could be noise from the attached kitchen inside of the house, but we didn't hear anything much, just some moving around close to 730am, and we were already awake anyway. Breakfast is continental with plenty of coffee and tea. The owners are pretty much not on site except for early morning I think, but check-in is easy, and we were provided with all information needed for our stay. The stairs inside of the house are pretty steep if you need to carry luggage though. I would definitely recommend the Emerson room.

We’ve stayed at numerous B&B’s and I must say the owner/ owners in this place were invisible. They must have said 5 words to us the entire 2 days we were there if we saw them at all. My husband called the number listed for a question about storing a bike and no one answered or tried to see us the next morning to help us. Our room on the 3rd floor was tired and old looking and the blinds on the windows were filthy. Breakfast was not good; cereal, oatmeal in a pack, toast, yogurt, bagels, and the only good thing, fresh fruit. It’s the kind of breakfast you get at an Holiday inn Express. 2 minutes after 9:30 they were clearing the “food” away. Remember, you get what you pay for. Find another B&B in Portland whose proprietors love what they do instead of just running a business.

Response from Dale Northrup, Owner at The Percy Inn
Responded 8 Nov 2023
Dear Elissa: We're so sorry your $99 room during foliage season in the center of Portland's historic district with breakfast and parking for your Tesla did not meet your demands. I suppose my response to lock your bike ("we don't have a lock"...Really driving a Tesla and with an expensive bike without even any lock?) within our private enclosed deck or to walk it under the porch was insufficient. You are correct, you should look for alternate accommodations when you are in Portland.

Do yourself a favor and stay at the Percy Inn the next time you're in Portland. My wife and I stayed in the utterly charming Emerson room and felt like we were proper Portlanders. You won't find a better value in town.

Very nice quaint B&B. The breakfast was so fresh and ample. Felt like being in my home. Lovely outdoor patio to sit on in the nice weather. Convenient to upper Congress Street. Shower pressure in our room was almost nil

The Percy Inn is a beautiful older home within walking distance of the waterfront and some yummy restaurants. The room layout was a bit odd - had to walk through the breakfast room to get to ours - but I knew that when booking. We really didn't hear any noise from the breakfast room until we were ready to join the. The food was plentiful for breakfast - especially the pound cake:)

I have pretty thick skin and I have dealt with my fair share of personalities in the hospitality industry. But this interaction with (I am assuming) the owner of Percy Inn was worth a 1-star review and warning. I called to take over the reservation of a friend who was no longer able to make their trip to Portland (he had already cleared it with the hotel that they could swap it and I just needed to call to put it in my name). The owner answered (on a personal cell phone it sounded like, while he was driving.....). I asked what the cancelation policy is and he sort of off the cuff said "up to 2 weeks before the day the reservation started." I very politely said "Oh ok! I need to confirm with the person who is staying with me if that works for her and I will call back asap." He then began the most long-winded, horrid diatribe about how people (who I don't even know) are too "fluid" and should just cancel their reservations to free up the rooms for "normal" people. I replied "Oh? Normal people huh?" So safe to say I will not be staying at the Percy Inn. I hope he finds some "normal" people and quits taking hotel calls from the car.

Response from Dale Northrup, Owner at The Percy Inn
Responded 26 May 2023
The policy of the inn is to accommodate guests wherever possible, but not where multiple changes occur, stays are shortened, names and credit cards swap, an uncertainty of commitment is conveyed, or we are subject to off-putting attitude with expectations of entitlement from a guest in the process. We will not be held hostage by the threat of a nasty review. As a result, we cancelled the reservation you attempted to piggyback and notified the original guest who reserved in December. You were advised to look elsewhere. We continue to make decisions that contribute to a memorable and congenial stay for all the inn’s patrons. Our practice of no mandatory advance deposits will continue until more people abuse the privilege. It’s a pity Trip Advisor permits a reviewer to weigh in on our location and other factors for instance without ever visiting the establishment.

The Percy Inn is probably the loveliest, most charming B&B in which I have ever stayed. Hosts Dale and Misael have thought through every detail starting with your entry to the you check out. My room was located just inside the front door on the first floor. In previous reviews and descriptions I read, they were very upfront about the possibility of that room being somewhat noisy. However I have to say I had absolutely no complaints whatsoever. And the room itself is stunning. Beautiful artwork, gracious and tasteful furnishings, and amenities that included a mini fridge stocked with complimentary soft drinks, wine glasses and a corkscrew, lovely toiletries, incredibly soft sheets, and a fireplace. You are made to feel welcome from the minute you enter the door until you check out. Breakfast is served on the second floor. Selections include lots of fresh fruit, all perfectly ripe; boiled eggs; yogurt; Croissants, mini cinnamon rolls, bagels, toast; freshly baked fruit crisps and/or muffins or baked breads; coffee, tea, juice; etc. and there’s free parking, too. If you enjoy a more intimate experience as opposed to a big hotel, look no further than The Percy Inn. One caveat: The inn is closed during the winter months.

We stayed here for 3 nights without a car and found the location great for exploring Portland by foot or catching the local bus. Bed was comfortable. We sat outside on the back area one night. Appreciated the tea, and cake that was always available as a snack and the breakfast to start the day. It is self check in which worked fine for us and owner's phone is listed if you need them.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights at we had a very pleasant experience. The owners were very nice and happy to help you with things to do in the area. The room was 100 % as described in the pics. Clean and well maintained. The breakfast was as described on the website. This was my first B&B and I would come back here again if my travels brought me to Maine again. There is a FULL flight of stairs to get to your room. I only mention this to those who are challenged with stairs. Most sights to see are within a 15 minute walk
