Detailed Reviews
I booked a double queen courtyard view for our august trip back in March. By doing this I paid significantly less then if I booked closer to the trip. I’m writing this review because the previous one scared me that I almost cancelled and found something else. Upon arrival there were 2 ladies at check in both masked. They were very nice gave us a map of Portland and a 2 page list of food recommendations. We had room 204 as we walked up I saw several housekeeping staff deep cleaning a room. As well as staff wiping down surfaces in common areas throughout our stay all masked. Ours was also cleaned well with plenty of towels and toilet paper. They are not servicing the rooms we were here a Sunday and Monday night. I guess I’m in the minority does not bother me. We did call for mor towels and they were in our room 5 minutes later. The room was very quiet but we were the last one down that hall far from the elevator. Yes the ac is loud but about the same as a home unit. Yes the bathroom is old but not the worst to bad they cheeped out their sister hotel in Watkins glen has beautiful bathrooms. They were a good size. The elevator situation is weird it took me forever to find stairs as they were not labeled clearly they were kind of creepy didn’t do that again. Great location and nice staff. Loved the courtyard. Bar was ok cheap drinks for a city. We ate other places so can’t comment on that. Also fridge is in the large cabinet very nice and complimentary waters are in there! I don’t know as if I would stay with my kids again more of a couples place

Stayed here for a few days this weekend and really liked the hotel. The common spaces and our room felt clean and new, and the staff was friendly, courteous, and helpful. The location is great: you're right near Commercial Street and the Waterfront and within several blocks' of so many of the best restaurants in the city. The in-house bar and restaurant were nice to have, too. Our bed was very comfortable and the room was well furnished overall, though the doors weren't quite sound-proof enough. And the water pressure was amazingly strong.
Just one or two issues. One was price. The rates felt a bit high for what it was, but that was probably due to high demand: the city was all but overrun by tourists this summer, and it wasn't really possible to find a better deal at any other hotel. Given the location and amenities at this hotel, we could deal with it. The other was an issue with booking: we first booked online and then decided to push our booking back by some weeks. We called and changed it on the phone, but then didn't receive a confirmation email for a long time, and when we did the dates were off by a few days, and they couldn't switch to the originally requested dates at the same rate. Fortunately our schedule was flexible and we were able to accommodate the dates we got, but this was a little frustrating and might have caused more problems under more circumstances.
Even in these interactions, however, everyone was friendly and as helpful as they could be throughout, and I would still recommend this hotel to others!

My wife and I stayed just one night at the Portland Harbor Hotel in a Deluxe King Room. The room was $178 (£137) for the night without breakfast and Parking was valet only. Our room was very clean, comfortable and very tastefully decorated. The hotel had a very nice feel to it throughout and was located in easy walk of the Old Port and Downtown. We would certainly recommend a stay here.

It’s not awful, it’s just not good. And for over $500 a night for a basic room, you need to be good. There is no maid service, which they blame on Covid. But none of the hotel staff wear masks. The person telling me there will be no maid service is telling me this while she is less than 6 feet away from me and she isn’t wearing a mask. If you are observing Covid protocols, then observe the ones that have some roots in science. They are just being cheap and using Covid as an excuse. The elevator is so slow as to be non-existent. We stayed on a low floor and just used the stairs, but I would encourage anyone with mobility issues to stay elsewhere. My biggest complaint is that we requested feather free pillow (due to allergies) and were told they were out. Instead we were given flat decorative pillows in shams, not cases, that looked like they were right off of someone else’s bed. Disgusting. Over $500 a night and they can’t run out and a buy a few pillows to accommodate all the guests that need them? The location is great. There are a lot of newer looking motels a few blocks away. This is a motel experience at a high price tag, so next time we’ll try one of those instead.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, stay on a low floor so you can use the stairs with ease.

This is an update to a review I posted a few years ago. If you charge $500+ per night for the most basic room and advertise an accreditation as an AAA Four Diamond hotel, you should really provide more than what is expected at a one star hotel. Some things haven’t changed such as a great location and kind staff, but that is where the positives end. If you chose to stay here, expect a less than clean room upon arrival, no housekeeping unless specifically requested (no communication on this upon check in), and an expensive, slow, and poorly tasting paid breakfast. Even after requesting our room be cleaned, nobody came to clean it. After contacting the front desk again, we did receive some fresh towels and our trash was removed promptly. The hotel did issue a bill credit for the inconvenience, but it was insufficient (less than 10%). I personally find it frustrating to offer limited services due to COVID-19 protocols while staff are running around without masks — whether vaccinated or not. I understand the past year and a half have been challenging for the hospitality industry, but cutting corners and still charging an exorbitant nightly rate is unacceptable. We will no longer stay at this property when we visit Portland.

I was referred this hotel from a friend, said they had bikes that you can’t air to drive around town, they got room service and everyone was really kind. There was no bikes because of covid, but you can simply wipe them down with a Clorox wipe. Room service was a joke I dealt with the most unprofessional staff ever, I was transferred, hung up on, and after 10 minutes of getting the run around was told that they can do room service. The room was way to expensive for a hotel that didn’t provide cleaning service, room service, or the amenities. I understand there are restrictions due to covid but the lower your hotel room price to make up for that. I was definitely over charged to stay there.

This was supposed to be our special night in the midst of a two week trip. What a bust! The room was very small for a $400+ night. No robes, no late check out, a “no” oriented staff. We were placed in a handicap accessible room that was well designed for that purpose or for very short people. Valet parking was $30 per night and no one told us parking was available for free after 6pm on the adjacent side street. We emailed in advance asking about self parking and never received a response. Oh, and we got nothing when we asked the front desk and then the bar for change for a couple of dollars—had much better luck at the Hyatt across the street. All of these things were a stark contrast with our experience in hotels in Montreal and Quebec. Don’t waste your money!!

The hotel itself was nice enough, our room was spacious and clean, and the shower had the best water pressure out of any hotel I've ever stayed in which was nice, but the TV in the room was rather small and the cable kept going in and out. My biggest complaint is the parking situation.
We were there during the week so there was no valet, and that was fine by us as we prefer to park on our own anyway, however their lot is comically small and the spaces are way too small for most cars, so most of the larger trucks and SUVs ended up taking up 2 spaces. There were numerous times I had to call the front desk and ask for help because we didn't know where to park, which made leaving the hotel to go anywhere a bit stressful. One time, a manager had to come down and help us get into a tight space against the wall where we had to fold our mirrors in and could hardly get out of the car. The other time, there was a big crane blocking the entrance to the parking garage and since a car was coming out, we simply couldn't get in, so we had to lap the block several times until it opened up and then eventually got in.
Because of the parking, there were times we opted not to go out at all so as not to have to stress about getting our car back in. I know it may be out of the hotel's control because of location, but it's just something to be aware of if you book here.
We also got a bit weary of the elevator situation. You have to take an elevator up from the garage to the hotel, and then transfer elevators to your floor...so waiting for an elevator could soak up quite a bit of time, especially if you were trying to be courteous and not ride with others due to the pandemic.
I don't think I'd return to Portland - I think I'd probably stay in South Portland outside of the city. I felt the hotel was expensive for what we got, but I also don't know what the other hotels are like in the area.

We stayed here for two nights last week. It was a good property with a couple of hiccups in my opinion. The biggest one is that, when I booked the room, it was stated that self parking was $25 per night. When we arrived, we were informed that they only have valet parking @ $38 per night. The self parking garage next to the hotel costs $45 per night so we valeted it. That was not a good experience as we forgot some items from the car and did not know where the car was squirreled away. The room was good but my wife was not happy with the garden view as she wanted water view; I am not sure any rooms have this. We were on the first floor. The hotel is neatly appointed and well laid out. The room was a little on the small side. They do have a good restaurant in the Blue Fin and one can get breakfast there for an exorbitant price. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Things appeared to have been cleaned well before we arrived. The parking snafu is what got me to lower the overall rating to four stars. It is a nice property that is located in the Old Port area near every shop in that zone.

Pros:
Location
They have suits with jetted tubs
My particular suite with roomy
Cleaning staff were nice
Cons:
Bed is horribly uncomfortable
You cannot reach front desk by phone (there is no answer). We had to physically go to the front desk to reach anyone multiple times.
Thin pillows and thin comforter
Thick caked dust and grime on vents
Single elevator very small (only 3-4 people w luggage)
Elevator was broken one day and the stairs we had to take were absolutely filthy and gross.
Toiletries are not ‘luxury’, cheap and hard on hair.
Limited parking, if garage is full you have to park at next door garage and be let out by staff who walk from hotel.
This is the most I’ve personally paid to be underwhelmed by a “luxury” hotel. The bed was the worst I’ve experienced outside budget chains. My partner remarked the COUCH in the room was better than the bed. I wish I had thought to ask for our money back and possibly try elsewhere before we settled in.
I would NOT recommend staying here unless you are paying around $130 a night for this hotel. I definitely won’t be staying here again.
