I look forward to June, July and August in Mackinaw. 75 degrees by day and 60ish at night. This friendly and well managed Mom & Pop is very comfortable and CLEAN. Walk to the cities best restaurants and Shepplers Ferry service to Mackinac Island. Most evenings there is a camp fire on premises, hosted by the Lamplighters owners and is... More

We stayed at the Lamplighter for a couple nights in August 2011 -- my family of four in the Lighthouse room (a suite, really), and my parents-in-law in a room two doors down. First thing you need to know is that despite its consistently high ratings here, it is not a brand-new or spacious place. It is an old-fashioned mom-and-pop... More

That's how you'll feel if you are lucky enough to be able to book at this fine motel. The owners Jenny and Terry make you feel like you are the most important person in the world. The treat you like royalty and make you feel at ease! Try to book this place well in advance as it becomes everyones favorite... More

The first thing one notices as they come into the room is that it is very clean. When I booked the hotel room, Terry (the owner) told me that the room was very small, and apologized that it was all he had available. That's okay, I told him, because it was only my daughter and I, and we weren't planning... More

On our road trip through Wisconsin and Michigan we made an effort to find independently-owned lodging whenever possible, preferably the old-fashioned Mom & Pop motels. Thanks to Tripadvisor I found Lamplighter. A theme room was available so of course we opted for that adventure. What a delight when we opened the door to The Up North Room! The obvious care... More

I've always stayed in chain motels on vacations, but after staying at the Lamplighter, I will rethink that policy. We stayed in the Dragonfly room, which was immaculate and comfortable. Each room is decorated in a different theme. The motel was located 2 blocks from the ferry to Mackinac Island, which was very convenient, and the owners, Jennifer and Terry,... More

We arrived for our one night stay at 8:00PM and were greeted by the owner, Terry. My honey and I stayed in the Venetian Garden room which has a queen size bed in the larger room and a double bed in the adjoining bedroom. Let me be sure to set the record straight. This is not a five star hotel... More

We stayed at the Lamplighter one night during our family vacation around Lake Michigan, so that we could spend a day on Mackinac Island. We had booked our stay based on Tripadvisor recommendations, and we were not disappointed. This is a small family owned motel where the owners treat you like family. The room was spacious -- actually two rooms... More

Hosts Terry & Jennifer make this place. On our recent trip to Mackinac Island we were due to stay at the Lamplighter before heading out to the Island the next day. We arrived a day early and Jennifer was able to get us in a room. The rooms are very clean but the single rooms are small. The two bedroom... More

This is a pretty motel in a residential neighborhood. There are flower baskets all around. This is possibly the quietest hotel location in Mackinaw City. It backs up to a home with a dog, but the the dog only rarely barked and not at night. As long as no one in an adjoining room is running water or moving around, its... More
