Sultan Palace appears to have been one of the first 'boutique' category hotels on the island, having been opened in the late 1990s by its Italian owner, Paola. With only 15 rooms (primarily detached lodges/cottages throughout the grounds), it is an incredibly intimate and private place to stay. After a period away from running the hotel, Paola took up the... More

We stayed at the Sultan Palace in September 2011 and had a great holiday. Our stay formed part of a three-legged holiday: 6 days in the Selous game reserve, 6 days on the Zanzibar beach and 3 days in Stone Town. In brief, our Sultan Palace highlights include: - Beautiful surroundings characterised by well-kept gardens, ocean views, authentic interiors (ranging... More

We stayed in Sultan's Palace in September 2011. We got upgraded to a large suite with a fantastic view of the ocean, so that was a double whammy. Rooms are large, beautifully done and have fabulous views. the sit-outs with the large divans add to the charm. Paola was especially warm and took very good care of us. Her staff... More

In the words of my kids - "this is the best hotel we've ever stayed in"! But, seriously, the hotel is excellent. Run like a boutique hotel on several acres by the Indian Ocean, it has spacious, carefully done up rooms. The room we stayed in was larger than an average New York City apartment and the bathroom alone was... More

We stayed at Sultan's Palace after safari in kenya. The staff especially the manager Sylvia were great and so accommodating. The chef prepared vegetarian meals for my husband - and every effort was made to make our stay perfect - this is a quiet hideaway - very few suites but magnicient surroundings. A perfect stop for a restful and romantic... More

We stayed at Sultan Palace from 3 March to 10 March 2007 to get a needed break from long European working hours. The resort has 1) beautiful location and scenery; 2) relatively few lodges which we think is nice; 3) friendly and warm staff always providing good service (who never even remotely tried pick up my wife – ref. the... we had a very relaxing time at the Sultan Palace over New Year's 2002/2003. What my boyfriend at the time complained about seemed charming to me: there were no tv's or cd players in the rooms. there is also no swimming pool and i read in more recent reviews that the hotel promised a pool "next year" and that's just... We went to the Sultan Palace for 4 days at the end of our honeymoon (after 4 days at the Bluebay which were average). We were immediately upgraded to an imperial suite (with direct beach access) because there was availability. Since it was early afternoon and we hadn't had lunch, they offered to bring lunch to our room and we... More

1. Great location. 2. Beautifully appointed and decorated in an Arabic style. The suite we stayed in was massive and very comfortable. 3. Excellent food and drink. The cocktails are superb. Although we went all inclusive drinks were extra but reasonably priced. 4. A very personal atmosphere and service. Staff are helpful, genuine and easy to communicate with. They bent... More
