My husband and I stayed here a few months ago and totally loved it! It seems to be a bit like marmite, you'll either love it or hate it! We found it very atmospheric and traditional. Our room was at the top and the stairs are quite steep, we had just climbed up Mount Kilimanjaro so we did struggle ever... More

Absolutely wonderful.....an old colonial house, converted into a beautiful boutique hotel. Very atmospheric, & the staff, excluding the security people, were excellent, couldnt do enough to make us comfortable, & welcome. The security, on duty when we arrived, quite late at night, were utterly useless, & we would have struggled to be admitted, even though they were told to expect... More

We visited this hotel, which used to be Emersons, last week. It is a lovely old building however is was grubby and poorly kept. The hotel seemed to be run for the convenience of the staff and visitors were a nuisance. The food was extremely poor and charged at central London prices, the entertainment was inappropriate for the space available... More

Always wanted to stay here since reading about it years ago. Stayed for 2 nights at the end of a trip to zanzibar. Booked the blue suite which was rather nice indeed with no windows and your own private viewing tower. The public areas in the hotel and very well done and full of lovely furniture and fittings. Only had... More

We were so looking forward to going to the Tower Top restaurant after reading the reviews on trip advisor. Unfortunately for us the wind wasn't co-operating which didn't aid out experience in the least as there isn't much shelter from the wind at all. (we weren't staying in Stone Town and made the trip especially to go and eat there... More

We had dinner twice in this atmospheric restaurant with terrace view on the city. The menu is very good, actually one of the best food in town. We could see two different concert, one with dancing and at the time we visited it was the best available. It is a very romantic place not to be missed on any Zanzibar... More

This is definitely one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. The furnishings are just lush. Food (in the roof top restaurant) was just superb, We were there for New Year and enjoyed a fabulous night looking out over Stone Town. The hotel put on live bands outside the main entrance to the hotel and all the... More

People described 236 Hurumzi as "quirky," and they're right. This is a place you'll either love or hate, and don't check in if you aren't ready for an experience. The experience starts, of course, with the rooms -- each unique and each luxurious. We actually stayed here twice, and so got to experience two rooms, South and Keep, and I... More

We stayed at the Sayyed room in Feb. 2012. Very romantic and stylish hotel. Just a bit worn down but very clean and almost everything fonctionning good and sufficient. The city is very much alive until midnight. after that it is quiet and calm. Stairs are steep but no problem to average people. The view from the roof top restaurant... More

After visiting two lovely pieceful resorts in Zanzibar we spent our last two nights in Stone Town. I can say that my first impression was a bit of a shock. However after waking up nice and fresh the following day, and being a little more open minded, we did enjoy our stay. However, I would not have liked to have... More
