Desperate Dan loved his cow pie and he would have loved the Old Ship Inn. The service with a smile is excellent. The menu is not large but varied. The food is excellent and the steak pie is heavenly. Portions are generous and the value for money is excellent. Cannot recommend highly enough and good place for a business lunch... More

I love going to The Old Ship - Kerry, Maggie & all the staff are fantastic and always make you feel really welcome. There's bingo & quiz on a Thursday night which is good fun :o) (no strict rules!) The food is outstanding - you really do need to give it a go.... xx

I have taken my walking group to this pub several times for lunch. The staff are so obliging, food great and good value. The last occasion was Valentine's Day this year and the table setting was lovely with fresh flowers and excellent service. Lovely atmosphere

The Old Ship is probably best described as a good village pub that also has some accommodation. The warm and helpful welcome gets full marks (I’d give it 6 out of 5 if I could). The room we stayed in was a reasonable size, with lovely crisp bed linen, and attractive matching counterpane and cushions, but it could have done... More

A quaint pub hidden in the quiet village of Lowdham. Only minutes from many local attractions. Our party of 14 was looked after wonderfully by Maggie, Kerry and their very friendly staff. There was a good variety of meals to choose from, all were served to a high standard. We had four couples stay overnight and all commented on the... More

When we arrived we found the staff very friendly and helpful. We sat down to a hearty dinner which was served at the "Captain's Table". A good variation to choose from. We stayed in a very cosy bedroom upstairs. Lovely comfortable bed and plenty of hot water in the shower, After a good night"s sleep we had a hearty breakfast... More

We were looking for a place close to Newark for the Antiques Fair. Newark itself gets very full. I am glad we found this place. This is a beautiful place. A lovely pub with very friendly locals and great hosts. The food was excellent as was the beer (Timothy Taylor's) We stayed two nights and the room we had was... More

This old inn is typical in many ways of the coaching inns found throughout the country. Plenty of opportunity to crack your head against low beams on the way to the rooms upstairs. The rooms we had were recently decorated and had good facilities including a really comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. The beer and food on offer both... More

This was a great place to stay when we attended the Lowdham Book Festival. Right in the middle of all the activities, the Inn was cheerful and welcoming, the food was excellent and Kerry, the Manager, went out of his way to be helpful. Just one word of warning: there are a few places in the building where you do... More
