This is a lovely old hotel and has plenty of character. The town of Abingdon exude England's green and pleasant land of market places and sleepy swan floating rivers. The hotel is, however, very dated and needs a spruce up. Soon. I guess my biggest gripe was the fact that our window was completely opaque and, when opened to the... More

I stayed at this establishment with a colleague recently and cannot praise the staff enough for their help! There was a mix-up with the booking and we had only 1 room booked, with the hotel now full!! They were going to try and place us in another hotel, but the Manager, David Mienie, stood in and gave up his room... More

We stayed in July for my friend's wedding in nearby Sutton Courtenay. We were given a really quite lovely room - large, with a four-poster bed, sofa, table, bathroom...a suite really! The building is very old a wonderfully characterful, and the room was in generally good condition, overlooking the courtyard area. However, we didn't really get to enjoy it -... More

There's no doubting the growth of Premier Inn and Travellodge ( other identikit hotel chains are available), has provided the traveller with clean, tidy, comfortable, inexpensive, well located hotel rooms throughout the country. They serve a purpose, and serve it very well.... you cannot beat a £19 family room en route to your final destination can you. However what it... More

Bulit many years ago and now in need of a complete re-decoration ( perhaps for the first time). In particular the bedroom and bathroom we stayed in needs gutting and a complete refurb. In this bedroom noisy pidgeons where nesting in a chimney adjacent to the room, this kept us awake as did the concern over the cleanliness of the room particularly... More

This is a nice old building with a rabbit warren of rooms, far more interesting than some of the "box" hotels. It is situated just yards from the Thames and a few minutes walk from the town centre. The ensuite double room I stayed in was large clean and comfortable with wide screen TV and tea / coffee facilities. Check... More

The staff that we had contact with were friendly and extremely nice and the food was outstanding. But I have been to this hotel and Restaurant only three times and each time I was charged for drinks in the Restaurant that we did NOT have. While at the bar getting drinks, we first heard of other customers complaining of over... More

For the money you can't beat this hotel. Its 4 hundred years old so don't expect mod cons. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was lovely. The breakfast waitress hadn't turned up and so the poor woman who was on reception was running around like something demented but managed to serve a restaurant full of people AND check us out... The hotel is nice enough. I booked through Bookings.com, got an executive room which was a good size for a reasonable price, but it did look out on to the main road through the town - it was hot and so with the window open, it got a bit noisy. The staff were friendly, but there was no where to... More

£80 a night seems a lot for a room which was grubby, had only one bedside light and no central light. The TV was a very old model and there was no remote control. The hanging space was difficult to access because of the TV. The window was filthy and covered in flies. On the plus side, nice cotton bedlinen,... More
