We ate here two nights running -we were staying at the Gaskall just down the road but came here for dinner. Excellent steak and several deals to choose from

Shabby decor, tired decor, dirty everywhere. Very average food. Very dark and dingy pub. May be fine for an older clientele, but not for me. Under staffed on the day we had the dubious experience, needs updating. The pub is covered in dust on pictures on the wall and the upholstery looks disgusting. The landlord is a very rude man.

I know times are hard but - Malthouse accommodation is in desperate need of updating. So-called residents' lounge there is to be avoided at all costs (trust me). What a wonderful place to stay, very clean and spacious room with loads of character - loved the creaking floorboards! The hosts are friendly, helpful with useful local knowledge. I have stayed in The Talbot Inn on numerous occasions and have been treated like a family member every time I stay. The accommodation is first class, the food is outstanding and the hospitality exceptional.
