We were so pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to our "Willows" room. We did not book in advance although we did use Google to find the location. Veronica (the owner) was extremely friendly upon checkin. The room was lovely, clean and with all the comforts of home and some added extras... a real find at an extremely reasonable... More

Three of us and a 3 year old child were visiting Hobart and wanted to stay somewhere outside the city. New Norfolk is very close and picturesque and easy to get to from Mona. A well equipped kitchen, lovely breakfast supplies and gardens leading down to a private little jetty.Comfortable furniture and relaxed owners.

The reviews of this accommodation vary greatly, clearly different expectations and perhaps different units. We stayed in 'The Willows' for two nights at the end of an anti-clockwise two weeks around Tasmania - wonderful to pull up short of Hobart after coming through from Strahan in rain. Out of Hobart, yes, but an easy drive of an hour to the... More

Such a great cottage. It had everything we needed - from bath robes to modern bathroom. I would highly recommend this place and you have a wonderful views of the river. They even have cereal, toast, milk, different condiments, tea and coffee in your room. Great value for your money.

I was disappointed from the start. Was looking forward to our river view when we were down graded from that to a room with a view of the main road and no continental breakfast as stated. Very upset, it was my birthday holiday.

The one bedroom apartment was comfortable, and well appointed. We stayed three days and never saw service . No towel change, no garbage pick up, no floor vacuuming, no toilet paper replacement, No way to light the barbeque. At $155 nightly we really expected more

Obviously people have a different idea on what 'luxury' really is - maybe the hosts should travel around Australia and see what for themselves where they are missing the mark. These 'cottages' were advertised as being luxury but fell far from the mark. Having generic slices of bread in lunchbox containers in the fridge was not really appreciated, although there... More

Chose Shingles Cottages to be on Derwent River. We stayed in The Willows, a one bedroom cottage. Fitout of cottage was outstanding. Free car parking in front of door. Airconditioning good. Large lounge area with large leather couch, coffee table, spare single bed, a good TV, CD and DVD player and CDs and DVDs. Rare attention to detail shown everywhere.... More

It was only by chance that my Mum and I came across Shingles Riverside Cottages and we were so happy. John and Veronica were very friendly and accommodating. They had one Cottage Left (Paddy's Flat) and they encouraged us to go and have a look before we committed. It was exactly what we needed and wanted with a beautiful riverside... More

We recently spent 3 nights at The Shingles (Nov 2011) We were in" The Derwent" which is very spacious. There is plenty of cereal but you need to replenish your own milk and bread if staying longer. Even though there was a dining table we sat at the table outside the back door for every meal as the garden setting... More
