The hotel was nice because it was centrally located. The room we had was a bit smaller than regular hotel rooms, but it was adequate for the 2 of us. The bed was very comfortable. We stayed during the weekend, so I assume that's why we didn't have to deal with too much traffic noise. We didn't have a view,... More

I was on a 2 month long trip, to France, Germany, Finland and Russia and this was the best room of the trip. I had forgotten that I had reserved a junior suite and it was great. A large corner room, with an equally large bathroom. And it had a bathtub, which is a big plus for me. Also had... More

The hotel is nice enough and is centrally located. However, when we got to our room (after a transatlantic flight and having requested a quiet room) we found that we were in a room with a connecting door to neighbours with a crying baby. We asked for a different room, but they had two weddings in the hotel that night... More

The Governor is one of Portland's historic hotels, great location and the restaurant is excellent. The rooms are large and clean, although my most recent stay was some years after the first one, and it seems they did a funky remodel of parts of the hotel in the meantime. Overall, however, I would recommend The Governor or The Deluxe if... More

I stayed in Governor for 2 reasons: 1. Almost nothing was available in Portland the night i needed. 2. i thought it might be a charming period place. The lobby is nice and period, although the furniture is circa 2009 Rooms to go. The room may as well have been a Hampton Inn. Old tube TV. Broken sink. Had a... More

We got caught in a downpour without umbrellas (should have known better) and went back to the room to warm up and dry off. That was when we discovered the heat wasn't working in out room. We called the front desk, someone was there instantly to confirm there was a problem...and then we were whisked to a new room with... More

We booked here since we attended a conference downstairs. This was one of our first trips with our 8 month old - which went quite well, they provided a pack-n-play with clean blankets. Nice clean room and bathroom facing the street. Quiet though close to downtown streets (They do provide earplugs if the "sounds of the city". Comfortable bed, well... More

The Governor is a wonderful medium-sized boutique hotel that was built on a grand scale for its time. Not sure how far back this place goes, but you can tell by the architecture and and grandeur of its lobby that it goes back to an opulence of long ago. I stayed here for a week in May and lucked out... More

Have stayed there twice in the last few weeks. Our first stay was better than expected. Nice room on the corner facing the street. Comfortable bed, well appointed room with a large comfortable bathroom. Thinking the Governor might become our go to hotel for stays in Portland, we returned two weeks later. We were booked into a closet. Tiny bed,... More

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a review. I am sorry that your second visit didn't match your first visit. The room you stayed in on your most recent stay isn't reflective of the vast majority of our rooms. I hope that our Guest Service Agents were given the opportunity to relocate you while you were... Musty, moldy and dusty. The air in the whole place made me asthmatic and sick. They also decided to start renovations. Just made the whole place even worse. The health department should shut the place down until they can clean the air and replace all the moldy rugs. Don't stay here!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I am sorry that we weren't able to better accomodate you. As evidence by the vast majority of reviews yours was not a typical experience. Like you, I also have asthma which is brought about by allergies to dust and mold. I can honestly say, I have never... More
