We arrived on a Friday night to discover we were the only people booked in that night. A bit off putting at first but no need to worry! We were warmly welcomed by Liam and shown to our room which was a good size and very comfortable. He shared with us his local knowledge of places to eat and the... More

Stayed here with a group in April 2012. We climbed Carrauntuohill on the Saturday in amazing weather. Arrived the Friday night to a cosy fire in the bar, with armchairs gathered around. The hospitality was great from the start. The atmosphere is very laidback, with eclectic furniture and nice touches around the place. It is more like a really good... More

We 13 walkers from Dublin really enjoyed our stay in Glencar House Hotel. Eilis and Liam are fantastic hosts, gave us a warm welcome and looked after us very well , including musical accompaniment for the sing song. The food was delicious, the rooms comfortable and all of it very good value. This is an ideal base for climbing Carrantouhill... More

Just back from Glencar House Where we were welcomed by Eilish & Liam. From the moment we arrived we were thoroughly spoiled with hospitality, great knowledge of the area and delicious homemade wholesome tasty food. The accommodation is clean & basic but the warmth and kindness from our hosts more than made up for shabby/chic appearance of the hotel. Would... More

From arrival to departure Glencar House owners,Eilish and Liam couldn't do enough for us. Rooms are spacious, lovely fires burning in the reception rooms and food excellent, including the packed lunches keeping us going for our trek up Carantouhill, guided by local expert Johnny. We will definitely be back and wish this incredibly hard-working and charming couple every success with... More

Stayed here for two nights. The couple running Glencar House are extremely welcoming. The decor is old but this only adds to the charm. The small bar and open fire is very cosy. If you are after modern facilites this is not the place for you. However if you are looking for charm, a warm welcome and great value Glencar... More

I had five rooms booked for three nights for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th September. On the 16th August I had a phone call informing me that the owners had decided to close the hotel on the 1st September. Points for taking the trouble to phone and the lady who did was most apologetic, but one wonders what is going... More
