We travelled to Stromness on The Orkney isles, the Stromness Hotel is situated on the Pier Head which is handy if you are using the ferry as we did. A traditional holday hotel with large rooms (we were lucky enough to get one with a view over the harbour) bed was comfortable and breakfast was a delight.

If you ever stay at this hotel, make sure that there is not any noisy party going on far into the night. I did not and paid the price of no sleep! Otherwise the hotel was passable but fairly old and run-down and without any particular attractions.

Room 12 is above the kitchen & when the kitchen fans are on it is very noisey. Hotel decor bit dated but clean. Staff very friendly and helpfull but time it took to serve a meal (over 2 hours)! Quality of meal nothing special.

Spacious, clean but older rooms in an older hotel with a great bar and restaurant with excellent meals. We stayed here as a family of 13 for two nights recently and ate in the restaurant both nights. Our meals were so good the first night that many of ordered the same meal the next night. The staff were lovely.

Right in the centre of town, good parking and a great restaurant. Given that the town was nearly closed at least the hotel was warm and staff very friendly. The storm was cold and it was uninviting outside. Although not the most luxurious it was quite good value for money.

Loved the fact that the ferry boat lit up our room at night and the hustle and bustle of the small harbour right outside the front door. I love "time warp" hotels and was so pleased this one hadn't been hacked about for the purpose of updating! It could be turned into a boutique hotel and the tariff doubled....no thanks!... More
