After arriving on the evening ferry it was so nice to find the Ferry Inn so easily just across from the ferry terminal. We checked into a room in the annex. We had a nice dinner in the restaurant. It was a pretty restaurant with nice polished wood. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The decor was pretty standard... More

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your kind comments. In the rush to get the lock on the door changed so that you could get back into your room as quickly as possible, I forgot to say to the staff to comp your drinks. I had meant to do this. I am glad that you... More

Arrived on the afternoon ferry and walked the 100 yards to this hotel. Tiny reception area but lovely greeting from the manageress. Dumped our packs and walked up the west coast trail just to stretch our legs. Rain and wind drove us back, setting the standard for most of the rest of the week. The hotel rooms were very comfortable... More

Glad that you enjoyed your walking holiday despite the weather. Thank you for letting us know about your stay. I will pass on your thanks to the staff who looked after you. The weather remained mixed after you left. Hope that the rest of your holiday went well and that you got a few blinks of sunshine during your stay. More

We booked into the Ferry Inn for our last night on Orkney after a weekend in a tent. We had sneaked lunch in the bar the day before and were impressed with both the quality and the quantity of the food. We ate in the " restaurant " on the night of our stay , having been advised to book... More

We have just returned after having spent 4 nights at the Ferry Inn. Our room (in the annex opposite) was well decorated, comfortable and very clean. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ate dinner in the restaurant 2 nights out of 4 and found the food to be excellent despite it being really busy both nights. A great... More

Lovely to hear that you had a great weekend! Thank you for letting us know that you liked the room that you stayed in and that the evening meals were good despite us being so busy. I have noted your comment about the full Scottish breakfast and will speak with the kitchen about reducing the fat content. More

Went for dinner here on a whim after our first choice was fully booked. I still to this day have no idea whether I was in a restaurant or bar... we were offered a one page bar menu, with very little choice by an extremely over-worked waitress although there was a number of unnecessary staff behind the bar!! Our very... More

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your meal. It sounds like you ate with us on a busy weekend. I expect that all of the tables in the restaurant, where we serve the dinner menu, were booked and that you were offered a table in the lively bar along with the bar menu. We are a very busy... More

I'm surprised by the earlier negative reviews. This little Inn does not pretend to be anything other than what it is. Perfectly situated at the ferry port, this is a very economical (only 31.66 pounds per night per person including breakfast!) and well located place to stay with loads of character. We took a triple room in the annexe which... More

Charged 285 for 3 nights b & B ! Not worth it . Rooms are dated ie not even a mirror to dry your hair in front of ! Had to go to Tesco in Kirkwall to buy a hairdryer ! On our last night in this dump we were told that unless we finished our drinks within 5 mins... More

The reviews about our staff are usually very positive so I am truely sorry that your experience in the bar at the end of your last night was poor. The room that you stayed in was in the Ferry Inn and the price was £95 per night for two people sharing. We have hairdryers in most rooms and some spares... More

We visited Orkney to attend a friends wedding and our group organiser picked the Ferry Inn for location and cost. In terms of location in Stromness it is great. It is a two minute walk from leaving the Ferry to the front door of the Inn, we had a car with us but in hindsight we should not have bothered.... More

Thank you for your review. Your assessment of the rooms that you were in is accurate at this point in time. We have started a programme of refurbishment and currently have 6 ensuite rooms in Harbourside, just opposite the Ferry Inn, that are all ensuite and redecorated. If guests are looking for something more special, we advise that they ask... More

We booked two nights at the Ferry Inn and were put in the property labelled "guest house" behind the pub. It looks a bit dowdy from the outside but the room was fine - comfortable, clean and quiet despite being in the centre of town. We could put our bikes in a locked shed, which we appreciated. We had a... More

We stayed here for one night in June and had a first floor room above the Inn eating area. The room was ok and had a view towards the ferry terminal. The bathroom was a bit dated. We found the staff to be pleasant. The eating area is typical pub style and the food is reasonable. There is an adjacent... More
